In this role, you will manage a team of Mechanical Engineers and will focus on Residential Splits projects, New Product Development, and other regulatory design changes, etc. In addition, you will also be responsible for the continuous improvement of manufacturing processes, fabrication and assembly, cost reduction initiatives, processing of engineering changes, and introduction of new products. Responsibilities:
May include:
  • Establish continuous improvement goals and executes action plans.
  • Lead, train and mentor engineering personnel and support staff.
  • Establish, plan and direct engineering activities and priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
  • Provide direction to and mentor junior engineers, technicians and support staff.
  • Work with Design Engineers to revise, and sustain HVAC product designs, utilizing knowledge of mechanical engineering principles; provide manufacturing technical resource to Design Project teams.
  • Develop and manage project schedules related to new or existing product launches or design modifications.
  • Document product designs by preparing bills of materials, cost analyses, drawings, and engineering change requests.
  • Assist in redesigning internal components to improve overall long term system quality, improve efficiency and reduce cost.
  • Develop engineering solutions to product related issues through problem solving and root cause analysis techniques
  • Participate on cross functional teams to launch products, resolve issues, and support product improvements.
  • Coordinate project work internally with the department and externally with other departments to ensure on-time completion of projects within budget.
  • Participate in additional projects to support ongoing business needs.
  • Manages a team of design engineers, who will be working on projects related to residential and/or commercial HVAC product designs and/or their accessories.
  • Assists with product design by providing guidance based on technical knowledge and experience.
  • Manages resources to meet project workloads.
  • Assists with defining project scopes and timing.
  • Provides support for both manufacturing and field issues.
  • Defines and implements continuous improvement opportunities, lean initiatives, and design for manufacturing (DFM) tools.
  • Leverages engineering analytical tools (e.g., tolerance, FE, and CFD analyses) to facilitate product design.
  • Assists with product design documentation including bills of materials, cost analyses, drawings, and engineering change requests.
  • Supports agency certifications for both safety (UL, ETL) and performance (DOE, AHRI).
  • Works with suppliers to improve quality and resolve product issues.
  • Mentors team members to prepare them for greater responsibility within the organization.
  • Prepares development and succession plans for their team.

  • Works with Fabrication and Production departments & Design Engineering team to sustain residential and/or commercial HVAC-related products.
Qualifications:
Knowledge & Skills:
  • Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of refrigerant system design theory and practice.
  • Experience with engineering change processes.
  • Knowledge of specifications and standards used in the HVAC industry (preferred).
  • Strong leadership experience including influencing employee’s to be a part of continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency with software skills including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective project management skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills and strong project management –PM skills.
  • Effective communication skills - both verbal and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with teams & collaboration skills.
  • Ability to apply excellent judgement, strong work ethics and integrity on the job.
  • Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of refrigerant system design theory and practice.
  • Knowledge of commercial controls and their application.
  • Knowledge of specifications and standards used in the HVAC industry.
  • Ability to apply good judgement, strong work ethics and integrity on the job.
Experience:
  • 12+ years engineering experience.
  • At least 6 years of experience with Residential and/or Commercial HVAC product design 8 + years in a leadership role, minimum of 3 years of managerial experience.
Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or Technology – Engineering
  • Design for Six Sigma certification preferred.
