Position Summary

We are hiring a full-time Manager of Content and Communications who will play an integral role on the communications team, elevating our storytelling across our website, social channels, speaking forums, press releases and videos. This digital-forward role will report to the Director of Communications and be based in our La Jolla office.

The ideal candidate is a creative thinker with excellent written and verbal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple complex projects. As the role requires communicating effectively via online platforms, it’s essential that candidates are dedicated to learning new tools and understanding evolving standards for digital storytelling. The Manager of Content and Communications will work on site, with Monday and Friday currently designated as optional remote-work days.

Responsibilities:

  • Writing and editing. Serve as the lead writer and editor on a range of timely communications projects and materials, with an emphasis on digital platforms. Your content will take the form of press releases, social media posts, video scripts, talking points, executive presentations, and more.
  • Digital and social media. Day-to-day management of social media channels and website, including back-end content management and organization. Review and post content, including videos, and ensure all such content follows best practices. Grow social media audience and followers with engaging content.
  • Project management. Serve as a project manager for multifaceted communications projects, including website launches, to ensure deadlines are met and goals achieved.
  • General communications support. Develop PowerPoint presentations, provide media relations support, monitor news coverage, and create quarterly media reports.
  • Creative strategy. Think creatively and proactively about how to best tell West Health’s stories and reach targeted audiences—and execute on those ideas. Openly share ideas, propose solutions, and contribute to creative brainstorming.
  • Editorial planning. Collaborate with the communications team and other departments to create and maintain an editorial calendar for all communication channels.
  • Stakeholder collaboration. Liaise with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure effective and timely communication of our programs and initiatives, act as a communications ambassador throughout West Health.
  • Visual design. Even if you are not professionally trained in graphic design, you understand principles of (and importance of) great design and are able to work closely with outside designers to see projects through to completion. You will use basic software such as Canva to create social media content.

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or related field. Master’s degree preferred but not required.
  • 5 years of experience in a dynamic communications role, with knowledge of best practices for internal and external corporate communications, including social media.
  • Excellent and enthusiastic writer and editor, with the ability to create succinct, engaging website content, press releases and social media posts.
  • Experience creating and sending email campaigns using software such as Mailchimp and managing associated mailing lists.
  • An eye for great visual design, with ability to use PowerPoint and design software such as Canva. Photoshop proficiency and video editing experience are plusses.
  • Highly organized, proactive, personable, and poised, with demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and projects; we are a small team, so a willingness to wear multiple hats is a key to success in this role.
  • Ability to work on a company-provided PC.

Compensation and Benefits

  • The estimated compensation range for this position is $90,000 - $120,000.
