Overview

This position is to Manage the Child Life Specialists and Child Life Assistants at Levine Children's Hosptial, the Levine Children's Specialty Center, and Jeff Gordon Children's Center at Atrium Health Cabarrus.

Bachelor's Degree in Human Growth and Development, Education, Psychology or a related field of study. Experience with completion of student placement/internship in a Child Life Program in a healthcare setting required. Current Child Life Certification required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Good organization and time management skills are required. 2 years manager experience preferred.

Child Life has been a part of Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center since 1977, and at Levine Children's since its opening in 2007. The Child Life Department has more than 44 staff members, including a Child Life manager, two Child Life lead positions, Child Life Specialists & Child Life Education Specialists and Child Life Assistants. Our Child Life team covers a broad scope of care within the Levine Children's Service Line, from Emergency Care to Transplant Programs, Clinical Trials, inpatient and outpatient care. Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital (LCH) has taken the community to another level of service in order to provide care for the growing population of children in our region. At 247 beds, LCH is the largest children’s hospital between Atlanta and Washington DC. It serves high patient acuity as the flagship children’s hospital within the innovative Atrium Health and offers a full complement of over 125 pediatric subspecialists in over 25 different pediatric specialties. There are 4 pediatric hospitalist teams, a 20-bed PICU (including Cardiac ICU), an 85-bed NICU, and an inpatient pediatric rehabilitation facility. Levine Children’s also has the region’s first 24/7 emergency room just for kids, staffed by doctors trained in pediatric emergency medicine. LCH has repeatedly been ranked among the “Best Children’s Hospitals” in the nation by US News & World Report.

Job Summary
Prepares strategic business and financial plans. Performs financial analysis of current and prospective processes and practices. Undertakes capital purchase analysis and prepares project and purchasing proposals. Supports all financial activities of the department.

Essential Functions
  • Performs financial analysis of current and prospective processes and practices. Prepares strategic business and financial plans.
  • Analyzes potential capital purchases and special projects, and prepares purchasing proposals and requisitions.
  • Builds information tables, creates table relationships, and accurately maintains databases and trains end-users.
  • Reviews monthly and quarterly performance reports and prepares budget variance reports with explanations and supporting graphs.
  • Assists with planning and preparation of departmental operational and capital budgets.
  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining Revenue flow. Oversees all facility side billing and coding to accurately capture all procedures and supplies. Reconciles daily department financial log.

Education, Experience and Certifications
Bachelors Degree required. Masters Degree in Child Life, Business, Health Administration or Finance preferred. 4 years experience in a healthcare setting required.

Specialty Area - LCH

The manager oversees all aspects of the Child Life Departments and other patient and family focused programs at Levine Children’s Hospital and Jeff Gordon Children’s Center.

Additional Essential Functions

  • Directs the daily activities of other members of the multidisciplinary team, such as Child Life Specialists, Child Life Assistants, Child Life Education Specialists and may be assigned other members of the multidisciplinary team, if needed
  • Assists patient experience manager and other leadership in the planning of a systematic, organization-wide approach to Customer Service
  • Assists Foundation with fundraising activities as needed
  • Builds and maintains strong community relationships
  • Develops and implements specific operational goals and objectives on an annual basis in support of the hospital’s strategic plan

Additional Training and Certifications

  • At least two years of experience managing a team, including interns, preferred
  • Work experience in a pediatric / children’s hospital setting preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are preferred
