Job Summary:

The incumbent will raise philanthropic support for Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. Work in close collaboration with faculty and senior administration to execute and expand upon the strategic fundraising plan to support the mission of AHWFB.

Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree and five+ years of fundraising experience, including three years of major gift experience or seven + years of combined personal sales/fundraising related experience.
  • Advanced degree and experience in a Medical Center preferred.

  • Assistant Director, Major Gifts for Comprehensive Cancer Center

Licensure, Certification and / or Registration:

  • N/A

Essential Functions:

  • Identify, cultivate and solicit individuals for gifts of $250K-750K.
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 120 prospects with an emphasis on those with highest capacity and interest. The portfolio has more maturity and thus more time is spent on those ready to solicit.
  • Conduct 125-135 visits annually.
  • In addition to managing a prospect portfolio, the gift officer may be assigned responsibility for platform leadership of a specific interest/disease area within the medical center. Platforms led by MGO IIs would be Tier II Platforms, i.e., less than $100M in likely philanthropic opportunity and no formal volunteer advisory group responsibility.
  • Establish and maintain long-term relationships between donors and the Medical Center to effectively move donors up the continuum of giving.
  • Develop strategies for solicitations, utilizing institutional leadership, appropriate to the level of solicitation.
  • Create and maintain a culture of philanthropy with faculty. Develop and maintain a working relationship to encourage faculty and staff to identify potential prospects and provide them with feedback as appropriate.
  • Effectively communicate the Medical Center’s mission, vision, values and priorities within the internal and external community: translate scientific information into lay language as needed.
  • Make oral presentations to major gift prospects, effectively communicating project and organization goals, and promoting donors interest in AHWFB.
  • Identify and qualify (through visits) prospects following established procedures to create, implement, document and update solicitation strategies. Utilize institutional leadership and volunteers appropriate to the level of cultivation and solicitation.
  • Follow established procedures for tracking and qualifying prospects and for recording and reporting gifts.
  • Collaborate with Corporate and Foundation Relations to Identify and cultivate individuals associated with corporations and foundations.
  • Document all cultivation and solicitation activities with prospects.
  • Review and edit gift proposals. Track progress of proposal; strategize follow-up and intermediate moves between submission and decision.
  • Initiate, plan and implement special cultivation opportunities.
  • Prepare semi-annual strategic plans, meet goals re: dollars raised, visits made, proposals presented.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated solicitation experience and proven ability to work with wealthy individuals, and develop long-term relationships for philanthropy.
  • Evidence of having achieved either significant major gift closures or similar relationship based sales success.
  • Understand the fundraising process to include prospect identification, evaluation, qualification, cultivation, and solicitation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and resiliency skills, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Able to work in a complex and political environment with faculty/physicians.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as presentation skills that include relating research and program goals to external audience.
  • Must be self-starter and able to establish priorities, set objectives, achieve stated goals, and move multiple projects forward.
  • Willingness to travel nationally.
