The Maintenance Technician (Factory Engineer) is responsible for safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all factory equipment as directed by the Factory Supervisor. Reports to the Chief Engineer and Lead Maintenance Tech for mechanical and maintenance issues,and reports to Factory Manager for production/quality issues.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Familiarization with all factory equipment and systems, ability to recognize normal operation of all equipment.
  • Monitoring and performing scheduled maintenance per operational hours or timed intervals on Factory equipment, performing daily check list of equipment and routine cleaning
  • Maintaining proper oil levels and managing lubrication/greasing of all Factory equipment
  • Ensures only food grade grease is used on fish processing equipment
  • Operation and maintenance of all Case-up packaging and printing equipment, Glue machine, Marken, Strapper etc.
  • Operation and maintenance of Offal grinding equipment
  • Operation and maintenance of Plate Freezer mechanical system, hydraulics, control valves, adjustment of plates
  • Operation and maintenance of all Factory Electrical motors and bearings
  • Operation and maintenance of all cargo hold conveyors and hoists
  • Operation and maintenance of all mechanical conveyor offloading equipment
  • Maintenance and managing Factory HP hydraulics equipment, all pump units and filtration, machinery, factory motors and actuators
  • Ability to fabricate and basic machining operations
  • Ability to recognize potential issues outside realm of responsibility and communicate up chain of command, seeking advice and assistance when unsure.
  • Knowledge and basic understanding of Deck and Engine room equipment, ability to assist 2nd and 3rd Engineers in effective repairs of all equipment
  • Maintaining organized and clean engineering spaces as direct by 1st Engineer or Chief Engineer
  • Respectful communication with all vessel crew
  • Ensures compliance with applicable sections of the Safety Management System. Is knowledgeable and conversant on applicable policies and procedures contained in the SMS.
  • Knowledge, understanding and compliance with use of proper PPE and SDS structure
  • Understanding and proper use of Vessel Lock out/Tag out procedures

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ year of experience as a Maintenance Technician (Factory Engineer) on a vessel or in shore based fishmeal plant.
  • 1+ year of experience directing and training a crew.
  • 2-3 years’ experience operating machinery in an industrial or manufacturing setting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of factory equipment, machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and techniques for maximizing the effective recovery and quality of product.
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Suite.
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and percentages.
  • Able to communicate effective in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • A self-starter who is motivated and able to meet operation deadlines.
  • Able to lead and direct the work of others.
  • Ability to effectively troubleshoot equipment or process failures and apply solutions.
