Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the Maintenance Manager is responsible for the management of maintenance personnel and all maintenance activities at Idaho Pacific. The Maintenance Manager will be directly involved with the maintenance, repair, or replacement of parts and equipment throughout the manufacturing and production areas, packaging areas, raw receiving areas, wastewater treatment, buildings and structures, warehouses, offices, and company grounds. Major responsibilities include: managing the maintenance personnel, overseeing the preventative maintenance program, troubleshooting, inspection, testing, diagnostics, maintenance, repair, removal and replacement of parts and/or equipment, maintaining critical spare parts and equipment, maintaining necessary parts inventory at proper levels and keeping the areas of responsibility audit-ready at all times. Must ensure machinery and equipment are maintained to comply with regulatory and company standards and are safe for operation. Supervisory responsibilities include insuring all maintenance personnel are trained in and adhere to all personal safety and food safety company and regulatory policies, programs and procedures.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the service, repair and maintenance, preventative maintenance programs for all company machinery and equipment, including boiler, electrical, processing and packaging machinery and equipment, environmental controls, buildings, facilities and grounds.
  • Inspect and monitor areas of responsibility, examine tools and equipment, and provide direction in order to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe equipment or working conditions.
  • Insure personnel are trained in all matters of safety, including but not limited to Lock-Out / Tag-Out, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Hyster / loader / forklift, proper use of PPE's, all company and regulatory safety rules, policies, programs and procedures.
  • Responsible for hiring, terminating, coaching / training, disciplining, evaluating, time-keeping, scheduling, assigning work activities, and prioritizing tasks of maintenance personnel. Responsible for administering required position proficiency tests.
  • Assist in budgeting process for maintenance department, and for adherence to the approved budgeted maintenance expenditures and non-scheduled downtime.
  • Observe and test the operation of machinery or equipment, including after the repair or replacement of parts, or machinery start-up and shut-down procedures.
  • Review, develop, implement, or evaluate maintenance policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the investigation of accidents, injuries, equipment failure, or near misses and provide corrective actions.
  • Complete parts and equipment requisitions, monitor inventory of needed parts and equipment to ensure replacements are ordered and on-hand.
  • Verify Boiler Operation through the monitoring of chemical levels, review Boiler Operation paperwork and records daily for accuracy.
  • Keep maintenance records of any and all events that occurred throughout the plant on a daily basis. Records must be accurate, complete, legible, and in English.
  • Notify the Plant Manager, Assistant Plant Manager, or V.P. of Operations of any problems with parts, machinery or equipment requiring special orders, or urgent and safety-threatening situations.
  • Food Safety and Product Quality: Ensure all employees who report directly to the Maintenance Manager are trained in and knowledgeable of all Company food safety and product quality policies, programs and procedures. This includes the supervision of employee activities and all necessary and related documentation and record keeping/paperwork. As part of this responsibility, the Maintenance Manager must be fully trained in the Company's food safety and product quality policies, programs, and procedures including but not limited to HACCP, GMP, Allergen Control, and Sanitation programs.
  • Complete other tasks and responsibilities deemed necessary and as assigned by direct supervisor.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • A strong mechanical background is required; including knowledge of food processing and packaging machinery and equipment. Must have working knowledge of commercial electrical installation and repairs. Must have working knowledge of steam systems and boilers. Must be knowledgeable of electrical control panels and displays.
  • Knowledge of local, state, federal and company regulations to allow for the safe operation and protection of people, property, equipment, and data.
  • Ability to supervise, mentor, and evaluate performance; apply policy as it relates to personnel; and delegate or provide direction to maintenance employees.
  • Ability to read and understand parts manuals, schematics; and know the proper use of tools (hand and powered) utilized for repair and/or maintenance.
  • Must be able to certify in required safety areas such as: Lock Out /Tag Out, Confined Space, Fall Protection.
  • Must be able to operate equipment - Hyster, forklift, loader, etc. when certified.
  • Must provide own hand tools and lockable toolbox.
  • Welding and/or industrial electrical knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to operate a Windows-based computer at an intermediate level, including knowledge of time-keeping software and email programs.
  • Education:
    Education must be of such level as to allow for the accurate reading, writing, calculation and communication of the required materials and instructions to complete the job responsibilities. High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training or secondary education in a directly related field preferred.
    Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to stand, bend, or move repetitively for up to 12 hours.
  • Available for work on an on-call or urgent need basis.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis without assistance, and up to 100 lbs with assistance.
  • Ability to tolerate dust or chemicals.
  • Bending, stretching, lifting, reaching, climbing, crawling and fingering required on a regular basis.
  • Ability to see, hear, touch, and speak clearly.
  • Ability to use and maintain hand and/or power tools and equipment.
  • Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to extreme hot or cold, steam, dust, wet / humid conditions, low lit areas, and loud noises.

Supervisory Duties:
The Maintenance Manager will directly supervise maintenance personnel, and indirectly supervise shift mechanics. The Maintenance Manager will report to the Assistant Plant Manager, Plant Manager, or V.P. of Operations.

Working Conditions:
Normal plant / manufacturing environment. Hours of operation are 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Maintenance Manager must be available all days and all hours. Position is very physical / hands on. Will be exposed to high levels of noise, heat, cold, dust, and wet and humid conditions, and all other environmental factors normally attributed to a manufacturing environment.
