POSITION SUMMARY:

The Machinist will perform duties related to glass cutting, tempering, and handling in accordance with customer orders. All Machinist's will be responsible for learning and working all facility machine stations as required safely and productively.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work is physical in nature requiring ability to lift up to 75 pounds on a regular basis (sometimes overhead)
  • Responsible for operation of cutting, edging/seaming machines. Must produce a finished product within standard tolerance.
  • Must have the ability to set up, operate and perform basic maintenance on all machines (cutter) within the department
  • Pre-stage raw material (glass) according to work orders and place finish product in appropriate staging areas in accordance with established glass handling guidelines
  • Gripping, cupping and clamping hand and wrist motions are required to support, carry and maneuver glass/objects to platform heights of three feet in a manner considered safe for self and others
  • Responsible for maintaining work area, inventory control, quality control in relation to the other product being assembled, and meeting production needs set by management
  • MUST be dependable, hardworking, pro-active in performing assigned duties, ability to make sound decisions related to safety and have multi-task capabilities
  • Ability to perform repetitive work in a fast paced production environment
  • Ability to be cross-trained to perform job duties of other work stations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent - Required
  • 1 year of manufacturing/production/machine operating experience - Preferred
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers or other employees
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measurement using while numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Ability to use a forklift and overhead crane
  • Ability to work professionally with others
  • Meet productivity and quality standards
  • Basic Computer skills
  • Experience with hand and power tools
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to follow instructions

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand while wearing steel toe shoes; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, while also using arms to reach
  • Occasionally required to sit, walk, climb, balance, kneel/crouch or crawl
  • Must be able to consistently lift 75 pounds and occasionally move/lift/push up to 100 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required include distance, peripheral and depth perception

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
  • The employee is frequently working near moving mechanical parts
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud
