Responsibilities

3rd Shift Position

POSITION SUMMARY: Set up, operate, or tend machines to saw, cut, mill, bore, drill, shear, slit, punch, crimp, notch, bend, or straighten steel material

  • Measure completed workpieces to verify conformance to specifications, using micrometers, gauges, calipers, templates, or rulers.
  • Examine completed workpieces for defects such as chipped edges and marred surfaces, and sort defective pieces according to types of flaws.
  • Read work orders and production schedules to determine specifications, such as materials to be used, locations of cutting lines, and dimensions and tolerances.
  • Load workpieces into machines.
  • Set up, operate, or tend machines to saw, cut, shear, slit, punch, crimp, notch, bend, or straighten metal or plastic material.
  • Start machines, monitor their operations, and record operational data.
  • Ability to program and operate machining centers and lathes.
  • Test and adjust machine speeds and actions, according to product specifications, and using gauges and hand tools.
  • Install, align, and lock specified punches, dies, cutting blades or other fixtures in rams or beds of machines, using gauges, templates, feelers, shims, and hand tools.
  • Clean and lubricate machines.
  • Position, align, and secure workpieces against fixtures or stops on machine beds or on dies.


Basic Qualifications

EXPERIENCE:

3 years experience, or 1 year experience and successful completion of Vocational Machining Degree, and/or successful completion of Altec Machining Training Program

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

TOOLS:

Calipers and other measuring tools, standard wrench, metric wrench, hammer.

EQUIPMENT/MACHINES:

Grinders, sanders, electric drills, a range of CNC machinery.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

Basic mechanical knowledge, basic mathematical knowledge, ability to read a blue print.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work in an environment that is not environmentally controlled, including very hot conditions in the summer months and little heat in the winter. Work with hazardous equipment and in hazardous conditions on a daily basis. Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including earplugs, safety glasses and/or goggles, steel toe boots/shoes, occasional face shield, and gloves.
