Yard Supervisor

Position Summary:
The primary responsibility of the Yard Supervisor is to ensure that the day to day activities of the Yard run smoothly, efficiently and safely. This is done by scheduling and assigning daily tasks to Yard workers, while supervising their work to ensure tasks are completed in a safe and timely manner. Coordinating and scheduling drivers for deliveries not requiring flatbed or Manitou/Moffit. Supervisor's work both indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to inclement weather, including hot and cold temperatures. This position works under minimal supervision and must work closely with other Team Members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1.) Supervise – Supervises Yard and ensures their work helps to satisfy customers orders and helps load out customers in a timely manner. Ensures assignments are completed correctly and on time. Assigns tasks to workers based on a review of daily store orders and delivery schedules. Problem solves, prioritizes and re-assigns tasks continuously throughout the day to ensure that tasks are completed on time. Manages all driver logs associated with store specific vehicles. Assist Receiving with truck delivery unloads when needed.
2.) Leadership – Creates a harmonious, efficient, and positive work environment where Team Members are encouraged to work independently and cooperatively. Sets and communicates an overall direction for the Yard that is aligned with company objectives. Establishes open communication with staff and provides ongoing feedback to build a committed and motivated team.
3.) Yard Management – Ensures that incoming merchandise is stocked in appropriate Yard locations. Manages the recycle program by coordinating delivery or pick up of needed items. Reports all security, maintenance and equipment issues to the store manager.
4.) Delivery Administration – May be asked to assist all administrative duties that pertain to the receipt and/or shipment of goods, including, but not limited, the filing and storage of inbound documents, to all goods entering or leaving the Yard. Must verify purchase orders, transfers and buyer batches that have been checked in through the lumber yard.
5.) Equipment Maintenance – Ensures checklists are completed accurately and timely. Makes recommendations to the Store Manager regarding the need for repair, replacement or new purchases of equipment. Contact a maintenance repair company for repairs needed on power equipment.
6.) Product Knowledge - Extensive knowledge of all lumber yard merchandise, including, but not limited location and pricing.
7.) Safety – Ensures a safe, organized, clean and hazard free work environment is maintained through proactive safety measures, including, but not limited to, keeping yard grounds clean and aisles clear, as well as monitoring and enforcing proper use of Personal Protective Equipment and power equipment.
8.) Equipment - Upon training and certification is the certification trainer for forklifts and other power equipment.

Other Duties:
1.) Assists stores with delivery issues.
2.) Trained in First Aid and CPR
3.) Trains and mentor Lumber Yard Staff.
4.) Schedules, coordinates and follows through with the home delivery process
5.) Coordinates all store mail to include inter office mail, ensures timely delivery
6.) Performs daily security walks to ensure the perimeter fence is intact and not compromised.
7.)Ensures security stacking of goods and merchandise to avoid product loss. Manages high theft merchandise to ensure that these products are not left unattended or security stacked to avoid loss.
8.) Maintains daily safety checklist for trucks, forklifts and electrical ladders.
9.) Performs home deliveries when needed.
10.) Performs other duties as needed.

Worker Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of, (2) years lumber yard experience and one (1) years supervisory experience preferred.
  • Washington State driver's license preferred.
  • Forklift experience and certification preferred.
  • Must have the ability to stand, climb, bend, and lift merchandise of up to 60lbs for extended periods of time.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.
  • Must work well under pressure.
  • Must have Excellent multi-tasking skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented and comfortable working in a fast paced environment.
  • Must have proficient computer knowledge to include Google Suite.
  • Must have the ability to read and write English and have basic math skills.
  • Must be dependable. Due to the nature and responsibilities of this position, dependable regular attendance is required.
  • Must have a problem solving skills along with forward thinking regarding seasonality
