JFCS’s Refugee and Immigrant Services Department supports all refugees and immigrants in our region. As an affiliate of HIAS, JFCS is the oldest and largest resettlement program in southwestern Pennsylvania, welcoming refugees from around the world since 1937. In addition, JFCS is the lead agency for ISAC (Immigrant Services and Connections) a 5 agency collaboration providing resources and service coordination for people living in our region with barriers of language or culture in attaining the support they need to live fulfilling lives.


About the Logistics Case Aide

JFCS is seeking a high-energy, efficient team member who understands the needs of refugees and is passionate about helping them become self-sufficient and well integrated in their new homes. This is a newly created position that will help with all logistics related to the welcoming of newly arrived refugees. This position will help with housing set-ups, utility hook-ups, and other tasks related to resettling refugees before they arrive in our region. After refugees arrive, the Logistics Case Aide will support refugees with a wide variety of services including teaching clients how to use the bus, use local food pantries, obtain necessary documents, and accomplish all the necessary details to establish themselves in their new homes. This position reports to the JFCS Supervisor of Resettlement Services.

Accountability:

  • Provide administrative support with file documentation and completion of paperwork. Collect relevant signatures from clients when needed.
  • Work seamlessly with a multiple-disciplinary team to address client needs in real time.

Coordination:

  • Oversee, organize and track donations across different programs
  • Help with housing set-up, utility hook-up, and other tasks to assure housing is safe for newly arriving refugees.
  • Help with logistics through the purchase of hygiene kits, household items, and groceries, with responsibility to collect and file receipts, and keep accurate track of all purchases.
  • Accompany clients to community resources and services such as food banks or the community library
  • Accompany clients to government services for items such as State IDs.
  • Provide for bus orientation.
  • Transport clients to activities and appointments using the JFCS van or personal vehicle.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be culturally sensitive to the unique needs of a diverse array of refugees from around the world and provide trauma informed services.
  • Demonstrate a high level of organization to manage multiple priorities in real time.
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication with clients, staff, partners, case workers and other stakeholders.
  • A collaborative team member who participates in an environment that is inclusive, respectful, warm, and supportive.
  • Comfortable using interpreters to communicate effectively.
  • Alert to cross-cultural interference in dealing with staff and clients and be culturally responsive in providing insightful program interventions and a responsive workplace environment.
  • Cultural humility and openness to learning is a hallmark of this position.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Must have access to reliable vehicle, insurance, and valid license. Must be comfortable driving a passenger van.

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in navigating social service programs in the Pittsburgh area.
  • Lived experience as a refugee is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen focus on details.
  • Resilient attitude, high energy, comfort with a fast-paced environment.
  • Compassionate, patient, and committed to a client’s successful outcomes.


Physical Requirements:

  • This is an active position that requires climbing stairs, navigating the bus system, and driving a van.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.
