Lifeguard (Seasonal) Job at The United Methodist Children's Home
Description:
General Job Summary: The seasonal position of Lifeguard, under the guidance of the Residential Leadership/Director of Program Operations, ensures the safety of the youth and staff using the pool at Methodist Children’s Homes of Mississippi by preventing and responding to emergencies.
Essential Functions:
- Maintains constant surveillance of individuals in the pool facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency.
- Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
- Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service.
- Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.
- Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge & Experience
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age with at least one (1) year of applicable experience as a lifeguard.
- Must be a certified lifeguard and trained in water safety.
- Must be certified in CPR and First Aid.
- Experience working with youth is preferred.
Skills/Working Conditions:
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical skills evaluation as stipulated by the department.
- Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.
- Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.
- Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
- Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
- Must provide a negative drug screen result prior to employment.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical and TB test and on-going physical assessments as required.
