Job Description
This position primarily consists of picking up and delivering items to and from all library outlets. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor after completion of library delivery route. Supervised by the Library Director and Assistant Director.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
  • Pick up and deliver bags of books and other library materials, office memorandums, financial reports, and library equipment to appropriate library outlet, COA Service Center, City Hall, Post Office, and other designated locations.
  • Drive the library van or similar vehicle in making branch delivery runs Monday-Friday and in performing other duties as assigned by supervisor. Assist in transporting van to municipal garage for service.
  • Follow all City of Amarillo safety recommendations and procedures related to the operation of the library van and the transporting of items by hand, cart, or moving dolly inside and/or outside the buildings.
  • Make calls to coordinate pickups of donations for the Friends of the Library book sales.
  • Move gift books from the Circulation Workroom and other areas to the unfinished basement each day. Break down cardboard boxes and remove any trash from the book sale area.
  • Assist Circulation staff on assigned Sundays and after the route during the week with tasks such as discharging and shelving materials, waiting on patrons, etc.
  • Executes all tasks on the City’s Pre-Trip Inspection Checklist form each day and turns in completed document to the Assistant Director at the conclusion of the route each Friday.
  • May be responsible for setting up meeting rooms for library-related groups and restoring rooms to regular setups on an as-needed basis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Ability to handle and operate small tools such as hammer, screwdriver, pliers.
  • Ability to safely operate and drive library van.

Licenses/Certification

Required Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Job desirable for responsible college student needing part-time work.
  • Must have a valid operator’s driver’s license and a good driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

Physical Demands
Good health, physical condition, and stability sufficient to permit regular attendance and full performance of this position’s requirements. Must be able to lift and carry bags of library materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds or more. Must be a responsible individual who is able to work independently and efficiently. Must be a good team worker who is pleasant with library staff, patrons, and others always. Must demonstrate good oral communication skills. Must be willing to work a public service desk every other Sunday as part of the regularly assigned schedule.
