Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs a workplace examination at the beginning of each shift
  • Receive and sort samples of raw and processed material from the plant or other sources
  • Safely operate laboratory equipment such as a pH meters, hot plates, balances, moisture analyzer, microwave digestion unit etc.
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOP) for preparation, measurements and analysis of samples including but not limited to weighing samples, particle size analysis, acid digestion, and moisture contents
  • Prepare samples for chemical analysis under direct supervision
  • Completes all required sample paperwork
  • Maintains an orderly laboratory workstation
  • Use chemical reagents in a safe and proper manner
  • Clean glassware and pans in accordance with lab procedures
  • Responsible for daily cleaning of the laboratory including sweeping, mopping, and trash removal
  • Follow all quality control (QC) standards as stipulated by the standard operating procedures (SOP)
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to work occasionally longer hours to support Pilot Plant operation.
  • Ability to repetitiously lift, push, or maneuver moderately heavy objects up to 40 lbs.
  • Able to wear a respirator and pass a respirator fit test

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • MSHA certification preferred
  • Experience with chemical sample preparation and/or analysis

Safety:

  • Comply with all MSHA standards as outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations
  • Comply with all company safety standards and policies
  • Correct any safety hazards found that can be immediately corrected
  • Report any unsafe conditions that can’t be immediately corrected
  • Report all accidents, regardless of the severity
  • Report to work in a ready state fit for duty
  • Immediately stop work if the work is not safe or cannot be performed in a safe way
  • Participate in daily pre-shift safety discussions
  • Participate in safety meetings
  • Keep work areas neat and orderly
  • Use all personal protective equipment when required
  • Understand and follow procedures for handling chemicals as stipulated in the Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
