LAB LEAD

Growing SQF 3 food co-manufacturing company is looking for a lab lead for a food manufacturing plant just north of Oak Lawn.

Position Summary - Monday through Friday 7 am to 3 pm

The Laboratory Lead has the primary responsibility of overseeing and conducting food safety and quality sampling or testing of raw materials and finished goods. Documentation of results to assure the company meets all regulatory and customer requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for meeting all applicable food regulations (international, national, state, and local)
  • Responsible for complying with the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards (i.e. BRC, SQF)
  • Responsible for supporting the HACCP / Food Safety Team in the implementation of an effective Food Safety plan focused on the elimination of biological, chemical, physical and economically motivated hazards from our foods.
  • Responsible for documentation, control, and maintenance of the Quality Management System (QMS) including procedures, records, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP)
  • Works to maintain the safety, legality and quality of each food and the processes used in their manufacture.
  • Responsible for meeting and exceeding customer requirements
  • Works to reduce customer/consumer complaints for foods manufactured on site using root cause analysis, corrective actions and preventive measures
  • Responsible for the day to day management of the laboratory
  • Responsible for assuring all customer sampling requirements are being met and actions are taken when limits are exceeded.
  • Reports food safety and quality issues, corrective actions, and preventive measures to the QA Manager
  • Able to use the following instruments and devices
  • Thermometers
  • Metal detectors
  • X-Ray Devices
  • Calculators
  • Scales
  • Gauges, Calipers, Rulers
  • Moisture Analyzers
  • ATP Readers
  • Other duties may be assigned and QA Manager is expected to effectively manage and execute changes

Preferred Skills, Experience & Qualifications

· Effective work ethic and good communications skills

· High School Diploma

· Training in HACCP (Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points) preferred

· Good writing, analytical, and critical thinking skills

· Detail oriented, and possess strong computer skills

· Effective communications skills

· Trained in a Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standard such as BRC or SQF

· Basic understanding of microbiology

· Good writing, mathematics, analytical, and critical thinking skills

· Previous experience with GFSI, BRC, SQF and/or USDA audits desirable
