The Kitchen Department Cook will perform the following duties along with Kitchen Manager and instruct staff and residents in food handling, preparation, service, sanitation, safety, and storage; or function as a shift lead, ensuring that meals are prepared timely and according to planned menus, oversight of ordering food and kitchen supplies based on agency needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

(1) Prepares the weekly menu that consists of meals that provide solid nutrition and sufficient variety.

(2) Oversees the preparation of food and serves three meals a day outlined in weekly menu.

(3) Supervises residents who assist with washing dishes and cleaning up after meals.

(4) Makes use of the food commodities from the Greater Chicago Food Depository as well as other local food banks and donation sources.

(5) Cleans, organizes and maintains the kitchen and the dining area.

(6) Ensure all needed kitchen equipment and cooking utensils are available, maintained, and properly cleaned.

(7) Assist Kitchen Manager with the purchasing and ordering of food items and supplies needed for meals.

(8) All other duties as assigned.
