Position Overview

This position carries out duties assigned by the RN in order to increase the level of patient comfort, maintain good personal hygiene and maintain a safe environment for the patient/family/caregiver.

Essential Duties

  • Provides appropriate and safe personal care while observing protocols to support patient?s dignity. Assignment may include:
    • Bathing (assist, bed bath, shower)
    • Mouth care, skin care, hair and nail care
    • Linen changes and bed making
    • Dressing and undressing
    • Turning and repositioning
    • Transfers
    • Use of Hoyer lift
    • Assisting with ambulation
    • Range of motion exercises
    • Preparing patients for meal time and assisting with feeding
    • Recording intake and output
    • Assisting with elimination needs
    • Maintaining bed in low position with call bell accessible
    • Maintaining side rails up as directed by staff nurse
    • Maintaining good infection control practices.
    • Tidying patient room and family areas
    • Laundering personal laundry
  • Reports changes in patient?s condition, concerns about patient and/or family to appropriate nursing staff in a timely fashion.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary team conferences, shift report, staff training, agency and departmental meetings and other related activities.
  • Monitors and follows Aide plan of care and provides feedback to Staff RN.
  • Consistently represents the IPU and agency to all internal and external customers with integrity and professionalism.
  • Assists in organizing medical supply, laundry room and family areas according to instructions from nursing staff.
  • Documents patient care according to agency policy and procedures; documentation is clear, complete, concise, and timely.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills and creates successful interpersonal relationships with patients and families.
  • Complies with organizational nurse aide standards.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patients and their families, co-workers, volunteers, and the organization at all times.
  • Adheres to the organization?s Standards of Conduct and HIPAA regulations.
  • Reports any potential misconduct or violation of the organization?s Standards of Conduct, HIPAA regulations, or federal or state laws and regulations.

Non-essential Duties

  • Other duties as assigned to promote the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization.
