Position Objective

Clover Park Technical College (CPTC) is seeking a highly-skilled and innovative instructor to build a supportive environment for adult learners in our evening program as they train for a career in Esthetics. The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with the program’s diverse student body, helping support the colleges work to cultivate an inclusive culture and campus climate by valuing diversity, sustaining an environment of belonging, and promoting equitable opportunities for all. The successful candidate will work to eliminate equity gaps and help students succeed in their chosen career path and in what is an increasingly diverse work environment.
Well qualified applicants should be enthusiastic about continuously working to keep curriculum relevant, researching and implementing the latest theories and practices in skin care to best prepare students to for the dynamic career that awaits them. Successful applicants will possess the ability to work on a dynamic team that is innovating modalities and technical instruction.
The successful candidate will work in collaboration with other faculty in the Esthetician program and carry out functions related to the position as described below. The candidate will work collaboratively with advising and other student services to best support student success. Additionally, the successful candidate will work collaboratively as an active participant in our shared governance processes.

This position's duties are performed in person on our Lakewood campus.

Duties and Tasks (Essential Functions)

Duty: Provide classroom and clinic floor instruction utilizing a variety of teaching techniques to prepare students for licensure and entry-level employment

Tasks include:

  • Create, implement, and modify curriculum as required to meet learning outcomes.
  • Maintain and manage classroom environment, equipment, tools and supplies.
  • Create learning opportunities and instructional strategies for the course(s).
  • Develop and complete student assessments.
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of professionalism and mutual respect with students.
  • Model professionalism and employability skills.
  • Maintain accurate student and other records.
  • Maintain a safe environment through instruction, policy and continuous evaluation of the learning, lab and realistic job training environment.
  • Provide career guidance and job placement assistance.
  • Assess and provide student learning feedback.
  • Submit student grades in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Duty: Perform college support functions for the Cosmetology program and the college

Tasks include:

  • Provide office hours for student advising.
  • Participate on college committees.
  • Participate in shared governance.
  • Promote the Esthetics program and the college.
  • Assist with student recruitment and retention.
  • Attend staff meetings, division meetings, and program-related meetings.
  • Attend and conduct program information sessions.
  • Attend college events and other functions as directed.
  • Provide and maintain program information/communication with the college community.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree, or three years of recent industry experience and one year teaching experience.
  • Current Washington State Master Esthetician Operator’s license and Instructor’s license in Esthetics
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current methods in the field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in industry.
  • Competent in using technology when teaching. Technology may or may not include the use of iPads, internet, social media and Canvas.
  • Current CPR, First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens card or complete training within 30 days of employment.
  • Ability to pass a Criminal History Background Check.
  • The ability to contribute to the college’s commitment to diversity fostering a climate of multicultural understanding and appreciation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Teaching experience, including career advising and curriculum development in cosmetology at a community or technical college.
  • Experience in collaborative learning and team teaching.
  • Experience teaching in an on-line environment, with such Learning Management Systems (LMS) as Canvas
