Position Summary:

The Consortium Library at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Instruction and Research Services Librarian. This faculty librarian will be the liaison to UAA’s College of Business and Public Policy (CBPP), the Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER), and business programs at Alaska Pacific University (APU). This librarian also serves as a resource and liaison for government information sources to discipline faculty, library faculty colleagues, the campus community, and serves as the repository coordinator for the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP). The person in this role serves as the liaison for Data Services providing research assistance with finding data sources. The successful candidate will be collaborative, technologically adept, and have a strong commitment to innovative information literacy instruction, user education services, and assessment. Duties:

100This liaison librarian will actively promote, develop, and deliver information literacy instruction in the classroom, online, and through faculty partnerships. Librarians in the Instruction and Research Services Department teach research classes and workshops for their respective liaison areas, and share instruction responsibilities according to the Library's needs, such as for first year experience and student success courses. ***** This librarian will participate in a teaching rotation for LS 101, an online one-credit introduction to library research. ***** Librarians staff the in-person and virtual research help desk, providing support for students, staff, faculty, and members of the public. In-depth research consultations are provided for liaison areas, and as part of a shared department appointment booking calendar. ***** Teaching and research help desk shifts for this job include a variety of days, nights, and weekends. This is based on requests for instruction and when courses are offered, as well as rotating coverage for the research help desk. Liaison areas may change with department and library needs. ***** Liaison collection development activities include collaborating with the Collection Development Department and other subject liaisons to build digital and print collections in support of teaching, learning, and research. Liaison responsibilities include working with subject discipline faculty and selecting materials, with special emphasis on identifying electronic resources for assigned liaison areas as well as reviewing and weeding collections. ***** Library faculty participate in professional organizations, faculty meetings and governance, and continuing learning/professional development opportunities. The successful candidate will have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, a strong commitment to quality customer service, experience working collaboratively, and be able to meet the Library Faculty Evaluation Guidelines for tenure and promotion.Essential

Additional Information:

The Instruction and Research Services Department has seven full-time librarians including a department head, multiple part-time reference librarians, and several student workers. Liaisons provide instruction, research services, collection development, and outreach to programs in their areas. The library currently has a Tiered Reference Model in place for its research help desk.

The successful candidate should be committed to furthering the goals of the Library’s information literacy program as a high impact educational practice critical to student success. This includes integrating information literacy strategically within programs, developing online learning objects, and integrating new technologies and e-pedagogy into the teaching and learning process. Outreach to campus clientele in the assigned liaison areas is a significant component of this position.

Additionally, the person in this position will join other library faculty in collaborations with Alaska Native Studies programs and courses as well as business-related overlap in other academic programs.

    Required Education or Training:

    Master’s Degree from an ALA-accredited Library and Information Studies program or equivalent by June 2023.



    Salary Information:

    This is a full-time, tenure track faculty position with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package, including relocation expenses. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. The base contract is 9 months with a 3-month contract extension. The preferred start date is early summer 2023.
