Job Summary/Purpose:
Students in this position will assist the Admissions Coordinators and the Assistant Director of Recruitment and Outreach to plan, create, edit, and implement COCC’s organic social media content for Instagram and TikTok, with a particular emphasis on creating original video content for both platforms. This position will also support duties related to recruitment, outreach, and special events both on or off-campus.

Terms of Employment:
  • This is a part-time (<.50 FTE) Temporary Hourly/Non-Benefited position
  • Requires flexible work schedule, which may include evenings and/or weekends as well as travel throughout the district when needed.
  • COCC employees must work and reside in the state of Oregon at the time their work is being performed.
  • The College is NOT able to support Visa applications for this position. Applicants must already be eligible to work in the United States to be considered for this position.
  • Upon hire, must pass criminal and/or driving history; only information relevant to the position will be considered.

Essential Functions:
Social Media
  • Work with the recruitment and outreach team and the marketing and public relations teams to create and implement original social media content on COCC’s Instragram and TikTok channels. This includes regular videos, posts, Stories, and Reels.
  • Follow COCC’s student communication guidelines and social media code of conduct
  • Support planning and creating regular social media content for COCC’s Instagram and TikTok channels.
  • Support student takeovers and program-specific takeovers.
  • Develop creative, engaging content to increase followership.
  • Strategically engage with users and followers on the platform as appropriate
  • Take high-quality, appropriate photos and videos at events to be used on COCC’s social media channels.
  • Research and remain current on emerging social media trends.
Recruitment and Outreach
  • Assist with recruitment and special events both on-campus and off-campus.
  • Provide campus tours to prospective COCC students.
  • Attend ambassador meetings when needed.
  • Attend on-campus leadership training.
  • Provide clerical support as needed for recruitment activities.

  • Applicant must be currently enrolled at COCC.
  • Strong functional knowledge of and comfort navigating both Instagram and TikTok;
  • Strong aptitude for creating original and engaging video and photo content for Instagram and TikTok and an enthusiasm to apply this knowledge in a professional environment.
  • Ability to learn and adhere to the colleges brand standards and marketing practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and faculty from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to manage conflicts within and/or between groups and to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to be accurate and detail oriented.
  • Ability to remain flexible and do different tasks on a daily basis.
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds and other aspects of human diversity.
  • Ability to prioritize and be flexible is necessary.

Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:
Regular office hours are established between 8 am – 5 pm during the workweek. A flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the responsibilities.
Incumbent must be able to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to work at a workstation for extended periods. Requires to write, read written materials and computer screens, and ability to use telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting up to 25lbs. All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled COCC student in good academic standing.
  • Intention of remaining full-time student during the 2022-23 school year.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal skills and flexibility.
  • Ability to effectively and positively represent COCC.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and experience creating original video content on Instagram and TikTok.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience using Instagram and TikTok to promote events or activities
  • Basic video editing skills
  • Knowledge of hashtags and trends that can help increase followers
  • Design experience in programs like Canva is a plus
