Job Summary

The Advance Practice Provider (APP) works collaboratively with a supervising physician to provide direct clinical care for patients presenting to assigned ambulatory clinic within Denver Public Health. The APP works in close communication with the unit's multidisciplinary team which includes social work, care management, medical assistants, nursing, research, pharmacy and others to help coordinate comprehensive care for their patients. This position may assist in the educational training of future providers and students.
This position is for an advance practice provider in the Denver Sexual Health Clinic (DSHC)within the Public Health Institute at Denver Health. DSHC provides testing, management, and prevention of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and HIV to a diverse patient population including folx who identify as LGBTQIA+, male, Latin/o/a/x, or are spanish speaking. A successful candidate for this position will need professional experience in STI prevention and management, HIV prevention and provision of Title X/family planning services. Lastly, lived experience as a member of any of the diverse communities of patients we serve is desirable.

Essential Functions:
  • Delivers superior patient care and encourages increased patient understanding and involvement in care. (10%)
  • Determines and assesses the health status of patients by reviewing records, taking comprehensive medical histories, and performing physical examinations. (10%)
  • Monitors and evaluates medical condition of patient. (10%)
  • Initiates, performs, or directs other healthcare professionals to perform screenings and diagnostic tests. (10%)
  • Makes decisions regarding treatment changes and refers patient to specialized services as needed. (10%)
  • Orders and administers appropriate medications within the limits of the appropriate statutory limitations. (10%)
  • Completes required documentation legibly, thoroughly, and in a timely manner. Prepares and maintains complete and accurate charts, case files, and records. (10%)
  • Participates in clinical education of healthcare students as seen fit by the supervising medical staff. (5%)
  • May be assigned to perform lead work and/or involvement in clinical coordination, health station management or responsibility for special projects which may encompass protocol development, management planning, scheduling and other administrative tasks as necessary to support the practice environment. (5%)
  • Attends and participates in administrative staff, program, and Department meetings. (5%)
  • Utilizes the principles and practices of effective communication to elicit information, negotiate problem resolution, and/or garner support for various programs or policies. (5%)
  • Follows established departmental policies and procedures and adheres to any quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards. (5%)
  • Conducts clinical activities as defined in the privileging documents for this provider. (5%)

Education:
  • Master's Degree Required

Work Experience:
  • 1-3 years Related clinical experience preferred

Licenses:
  • CNAA-Certified Nursing Administration Advanced - AONL - American Organization for Nursing Leadership Required and
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques.
  • Skill in eliciting history from patients, performing physical exams, formulating assessments, and determining treatment plans for patients.
  • Experience ordering appropriate diagnostic studies to aid in diagnosis.
  • Knowledge of appropriate administration and prescription of medications.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment.
  • Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Ability to prepare accurate documentation and reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • EPIC experience preferred.
