Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
Under general supervision of a Housekeeping Services Zone Supervisor, provides leadership necessary to accomplish the Housekeeping Team Cleaning Program responsibilities within approximately 250,000 GSF of campus buildings. Leads/supervises 5 to 10 Housekeepers, and performs a variety of Housekeeping utility tasks.

Minimum Qualifications:
EXPERIENCE:
  • Four years in housekeeping in a lead or supervisory capacity.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES :
  • Thorough knowledge of the procedures, equipment and supplies used in housekeeping.
  • Skill in the use and maintenance of housekeeping tools and equipment; in the selection and application of housekeeping chemicals and supplies; in providing guidance and training to others; in overseeing a large housekeeping unit; in selecting applicants for employment.
  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of assigned housekeeping personnel; to estimate supply and equipment needs; to read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations; to operate assigned tools and housekeeping equipment; to work with chemicals and cleaning solutions; to understand and follow oral and written instructions; to lift and transport supplies and refuse; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
OTHER :
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Preferences:
Preferred Education, Experience, Knowledge/Skills & Abilities:
  • HS diploma or GED strongly desired.
  • Thorough understanding of the complete housekeeping Team Cleaning program assigned to his/her area. This includes all specialist tasks, staffing standards and priorities, team routes and schedules, equipment use and maintenance, and assigned responsibilities. This includes all project work including stripping and refinishing floors and specialty cleaning areas.
  • Expert knowledge of campus housekeeping Team Cleaning methods, materials and equipment.
  • Ability to read and write English.
  • Ability to operate all powered custodial equipment.

Additional Certifications:
  • Must possess and maintain a class C driver’s license valid in the State of Maryland, or equivalent with less than 6 points.

Physical Demands
The employee must have the ability to perform the physical requirements of the position including the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds; stand, walk and climb steps continuously; wear and work with the use of personal protective equipment (gloves, goggles, etc.) and to work in and around allergens such as dust and chalk. Must be able to operate all custodial equipment and train others in their safe operation.
Work hours are 4:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday – Friday. May be reassigned to work in different work zones throughout campus based on operational needs. Must be willing and able to change work zones. This position is considered that of an Essential employee, subject to a 24- hour day, seven-day week span of operation. The incumbent is required to come to work during emergencies and when the campus may be closed due to inclement weather. Will be required to perform snow removal assistance when necessary.
