Caregiver Position Description/Tasks/Requirements/Compensation

Summary:

The CNA/ Home Health Aide is a member of the home care team that is required to perform certain personal care and other unskilled tasks for patients in their home setting. The personal care services are necessary to meet the patient’s needs to promote a more comfortable and safe environment.

Job Duties: Each visit will be individualized so not all duties will be performed with each patient. This is not limited to these activities.

  • Assist with patient ADLs including but not limited to bathing, dressing, grooming, shaving, eating, oral care activities, elimination, incontinence care, ambulation, skin, nail, and hair care, and placing clean linen on the patient’s bed.
  • Companions will read conversate and listen to patient.
  • Participate in recreational activities and hobbies.
  • Accompanies patient on walks, trips, doctor’s visits, bank, grocery.
  • Inform director of any change in assignment
  • Light housework to maintain a clean, neat environment.
  • May cook meals and assist patient with consumption of food.
  • Encourages patient family to participate in care.
  • Provides emotional support to family and patient.
  • Assists in the maintenance of a safe and healthy environment.
  • Uses equipment safely; cleans all equipment with appropriate cleaner after each use.
  • Provides the patient with companionship, in many different levels, this includes taking patient shopping, to the doctor, on day trips.
  • Reminds patient to take medication. Under NO circumstance is the HHA or companion to administer medication, if patient needs this service call director immediately.
  • Takes a records vital signs (only if HHA, STNA or CNA.) once a day during initial visit.
  • Advises agency director of change in condition.
  • Documents all activities and findings. Submits documentation upon last visit weekly.

CNA and HHA will not perform any duties that may be viewed as practicing nursing duties. Especially administer medications, take physician’s orders or any procedures requiring the training, knowledge, or skill of a nurse specifically sterile techniques.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully one must be able to perform each job duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience:

High School diploma or GED, completion of a state CNA, STNA, or HHA with a valid certification though the Ohio State Nurses Board.
State certification not necessary if only wishing to be a homemaker/companion. (Compensation is different.)

Compensation:

Compensation for a certified employee (CNA, STNA, HHA) begins at $_______/hour.

Compensation for a companion/homemaker begins at $_______

All employees are under a six-month probationary period. A six-month review will be performed at the end of their probation.

All employees are eligible for staff bonuses and raises as Site director sees fit.

New employee referral bonus: For every nurse (RN or LPN) that is referred by the LPN/RN if hired and completes 90-day employment period the referring employee will receive $50. *new employee must state name of referral source on application.

For every CNA/HHA that is referred by the employee the referring employee will receive $50 at the end of the new employees’ 90-day employment period. *new employee must state name of referral source on application.

Language Skills:

Employee must be able to effectively communicate with patient and family member in a clinical manner. Must be able to read and interpret documents.

All employees also must be able to write in order to fully document all care activities.

Physical Demand:

This position can be a demanding position as far as physical demands are determined. The work may exhibit moderately heavy physical exertion on a regular and recurring basis. All certified (CNAs, HHA, STNAs, RNs, LPNs) employees must be able to transfer a patient from the bed to the wheelchair and from the wheelchair to the car successfully. This job requires long standing, walking reaching, use of hands and arms. Must be able to lift and move over 50 pounds safely. This position is in the home setting and the employee may be exposed to infectious disease, automobiles, body fluids, and pets.
