About BrookeBrooke Charter Schools opened as a single middle school in 2002 and has since grown to be a network of three K-8 schools and one high school, serving approximately 2,200 students from Boston and Chelsea. Our mission is to provide an academically rigorous education that will ensure our students are prepared to succeed in college. Because we know great teaching is the primary driver of student achievement, we focus our energy and resources on creating schools where great teaching can thrive. Brooke students results have consistently ranked our schools among the top schools in Boston and have frequently ranked us among the top in the state, as measured by MCAS achievement.Brooke High School was founded in 2016 and serves approximately 550 students.

Our high school students, 95% of whom identify as Black and Latinx, all previously attended one of our three Brooke K-8 campuses. Brooke High School students have continued their strong record of achievement, again ranking among the top schools in the city and the state as measured by performance on MCAS, SAT, and AP tests. Overview of the HS Principal RolePrincipals are the lynchpin of our organization. Strong principals, particularly those that stay and grow in their roles, create thriving cultures for students and staff that bring out the best in teachers and learners alike.

Because the role is so critical, we have made it a priority that principals receive the support they need to persist, grow, and thrive in the role. In the twenty years since our founding in 2002, we have had a total of eight principals serving across our four schools. While the national average principal tenure is four years, our current principals have an average of eight years of experience in the role and counting. At Brooke, our principals meet together weekly to conduct instructional rounds, discuss instruction and achievement, and support each other.

Principals are hired, developed, and supported directly by the Network Co-Director, who was a principal for ten years and has another ten years of experience supporting and developing principals at Brooke. Principals further benefit from assistance from and coordination with other members of the network leadership team in areas of operations, compliance, data analysis, and HR functions. This structure allows our principals to focus intently and productively on the critical domains of school leadership: academic leadership, culture leadership, and operations leadership (details on each domain below). Furthermore, principals have an experienced leadership team that helps support each of these domains, including multiple Assistant Principals, a Director of Operations, and two Deans. Effectively leading and developing that leadership team is core to the work of outstanding principals.
