POSITION SUMMARY:
The MPLX G&P Process Safety group is seeking a high performing and motivated Engineer or HES Professional who is eager to take on technical and leadership growth opportunities in process safety. Position will require travel up to 50% of the time within the OK region.
This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency, and skill level. The actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a member of the MPLX G&P Process Safety team, you will be responsible for performing, reviewing, and managing the technical aspects of Process Safety for the Oklahoma region. You will ensure company-wide compliance with applicable regulatory and corporate standards and support the Organization in conducting process safety technical analyses to enable proper process safety risk identification and management. In addition, you will:
  • Ensure regulatory compliance by providing guidance and leadership in administrating the development, implementation, and execution of process safety management (PSM)/ Risk Management Plan (RMP) programs.
  • Steward process safety risk management efforts per MPC’s Risk Calibration Standard.
  • Identify and establish leading indicator metrics that are tracked, trended, and used in a way to identify areas of concerns, improvement programs, address risk/ hazards and ultimately eliminate incidents.
  • Interact regularly and frequently with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and other Facility Personnel at assigned areas to build rapport and to be aware of, and assist with resolving, process safety related issues.
  • Facilitate and provide engineering support and technical guidance/assistance to G&P facilities in areas such as, but not limited to facility siting modeling, portable building placement, PHA (process hazard analysis), LOPA (layer of protection analysis), PSV and flare studies.
  • Conduct and review leak calculations, dispersion models, and quantitative risk models using various tools (e.g., PHAST, HYSYS).
  • Support facility staff in the proper and timely implementation of Changes (MOCs).
  • Lead/participate in incident investigations, root cause analyses and reporting.
  • Mentor other process safety professionals through project reviews. Develops and delivers training on process safety management and related topics. Advises on interpretation and application of internal and external standards.
  • Support construction in the process safety related activities associated with new plant/facility construction, such as but not limited to: PSI collection and review, PHA/LOPA facilitation and review, MOCs after design freeze.
  • Travel up to 25% of the time
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Petroleum or related) with at least 2 years of relevant years of experience; OR Bachelor’s degree in HES related field with at least 5 years of relevant experience in a process industry; OR High School diploma or GED with 10 years of relevant experience in a process industry
  • Preferred Experience in field/Refining/Midstream in areas such as operations, maintenance, engineering, technical services, or environment and safety. Hands on experience in the execution of MOCs, incident investigations, recommendation management, and data analysis and reporting.
  • Equivalent experience in other related industries will be considered.
  • Valid driver’s license required
Grade 12 Additional Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, HES related field, or advanced degree with 7 years relevant environmental experience OR High School diploma or GED with 15 years of relevant experience in a process industry
SKILLS:
  • Strong computer proficiency including Microsoft Office products (especially Excel)
  • Ability to successfully use company-specific software applications such as Power BI, HYSYS and PHAST.
