Position Summary:
Under the direction of the General Manager, establishes and maintains a collaborative safety culture and monitors the facility manufacturing activities in accordance with internal safety policies and OSHA regulations. Must be a strong safety leader who is proactive and aggressive in implementing health and safety culture in a foundry/heavy industry setting. Must have a strong background in injury prevention.
Responsibilities:
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manages Health and Safety organization staff including – Nurse, Union VPP Coordinator, Safety Specialist and Safety Administrator
  • Manages and oversees safety and health training – responsible for all training but must be experienced in supervisor safety training, lockout, confined space, fall protection, machine guarding, electrical safety, incident investigation, silica and crane safety. Development of the annual safety training schedule.
  • Responsible for overseeing the implementation of corporate health and safety programs. This will entail performing frequent safety audits of these programs.
  • Managing and implementing the industrial hygiene program – responsible for identifying and assessing exposures and recommending corrective actions to management.
  • Performing frequent safety inspections of the facility, documenting findings and tracking action items to closure.
  • Active leader of the site OSHA VPP program – will have regular interaction with OSHA
  • OSHA compliance and compliance with corporate health and safety procedures
  • Contractor Safety Program – training materials, ISN contractor management
  • Participate as a member of the site VPP safety committee
  • Responsible for assisting plant supervisors develop JSA’s for their jobs and tasks within their areas of responsibility.
  • Development of the annual Risk Reduction Plan with management based off statistics, risks, and past incidents.
  • Responsible for OSHA recordkeeping, establishing and maintaining records and reports required by the Occupational Safety and Health Act and other regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for Worker’s Compensation program, and Worker’s Compensation case management.
  • Responsible for oversight of occupational health programs; first aid team, medical, hearing conservation, respiratory protection programs and crane physicals. Responsible for oversight of pre-employment physicals, return to work programs, drug testing and other health services activity supported by external contracted health services.
  • In concert with engineering and operations, provide analysis and consultation relative to new equipment installations to ensure health and safety requirements are addressed during project design stages. Participates in final approval to release new equipment to enter production.
  • Performs incident trend analysis and provides recommendations for improvement to management.
  • Oversight of the confined space rescue program such as training, medical, and equipment.
  • Participates in corporate safety monthly calls, pipe group annual meetings as well as corporate meetings.
  • Responsible for the plant asbestos program.
  • Participates in and leads incident investigations and tracks action items to closure.
  • Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs.
  • Excellent hazard recognition skills and providing direction and training to the facility for hazard recognition
  • Update and maintain WEB based documents per Corporate requirements including Cority® and SharePoint.
  • Reports on safety KPI’s to local & Corporate Management

Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE :
  • BA/BS in Occupational Safety or related degree required
  • 5-10 years related experience and/or training.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to interact with all levels of management
  • Must have experience and knowledge of all OSHA regulations and standards
  • Able to comprehend verbal and written instructions and procedures.
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner
  • Capable of functioning in a rapid paced environment and able to multi-task while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Develops alternative solutions; works well in group problem solving
  • Able to prioritize work and meet project deadlines
  • Constant interaction with employees at all levels and departments
  • Contact w/ corp. representatives, legal counsel and Safety Department Staff
  • Preferred: Experience managing a VPP Site
  • CSP and/or CIH or other Health and safety certification preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
