Head Spirit Squad Coach Job at Montana State University

The Spirit Squad Head Coach is a role to direct and oversee all aspects of the Montana State University Spirit Squad, including the Cheer Squad, Dance Team, and Mascot.

Duties and Responsibilities
Create and manage the Spirit Squad budget in cooperation with the Deputy Athletic Director for Business Operations and the Deputy Athletic Director – External Operations.
Managing the fiscal aspects of the Spirit Squad, including developing and implementing fund raising activities.
Recruiting of Spirit Squad/Mascot student-athletes to MSU, as well as coordinating and supervising the annual squad selection process.
Planning and coordinating all Spirit Squad/Mascot practices and appearances. Developing and managing all Spirit Squad cheer and dance clinics and summer camps. Supervising Spirit Squad members (Cheer, Dance, Mascots / 30-40 members)
Arranging all team travel, as well as traveling with the team.
Monitoring academic progress and supervising the physical conditioning of Spirit Squad members; coordinating with the Academic Coordinator, the Weight Room Staff, and the Training Room Staff.
Supervising Champ’s appearances.
Attending public relations events, as required, interacting with fans, boosters, parents, administration, etc. Obtaining and retaining AACCA Safety Course, CPR, and First Aid certifications.
Responsible for complying with all Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, Montana State University, NCAA, and Big Sky Conference rules and regulations.
Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying spirit squad safety guidelines.
Demonstrated experience in fiscal management.
Demonstrated supervisory experience.
Knowledge of fund-raising principles and industry standards.
AACCA or NCSSE certification.

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Experience as a cheer and/or dance athlete at the collegiate level.
Experience coaching and counseling spirit squad members at the collegiate level.
Experience recruiting students to the University setting.
Knowledge of and commitment to the state of Montana, BSC, and NCAA Division I rules and regulations.
Experience developing and motivating student-athletes for athletic and academic success.

The Successful Candidate Will
Possess public relations experience, including excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Possess general administrative skills and knowledge of budgeting practices, effective applying that knowledge to the Spirit Squad Program budget.
Possess knowledge of spirit squad fundamentals.
Effectively teach and coach cheer and dance techniques and fundamentals in a respectful and positive manner.
Be self-motivated, make sound judgments, and be able to relate to and have a high interest in working with and/or teaching young people.
