Exciting Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the build out of a repeatable, turnkey implementation approach, leveraging what HSB does best with client companies, but uniquely suited to helping InsurTechs achieve their growth ambitions. The Custom Accounts Division (CAD) is positioned and expected to be a leading growth engine for HSB building on a well-established strong foundation.

The Head of InsurTech is a key member of the HSB CAD Senior Leadership Team. This role has accountability for P&L for all InsurTech revenue streams within CAD. This role will be responsible for establishing, leading and executing on all strategies associated with HSB’s InsurTech Enablement business unit. Responsible for establishing, leading and executing on all strategies associated with InsurTech Enablement.

The InsurTech Enablement business unit provides solutions that HSB leads (EB, Cyber, IoT-driven, etc.) including products, capacity, services, and expertise, in markets we choose, that power the success of HSB’s InsurTech clients.

The Right Team

The InsurTech business unit is fully integrated, i.e., underwriting, business development and operations. Success relies on rigorous collaboration with HSB’s industry class Underwriting and Operations leaders that are supporting the business. This includes the CAD Chief Underwriting Officer to understand performance analysis, risk appetite and make adjustments to the strategy as required, as well as the CAD Chief Operating Officer to ensure that HSB is easy for clients to do business with, and that systems and operations are optimized to achieve business strategy. Responsible for leading and developing talented teams of dedicated business development/ client management, underwriting and operations staff to achieve financial and strategic goals.

WE EXPECT

Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required
  • 10+ years of insurance industry experience
  • 5+ years of experience leading a client facing business development team
  • 3+ years of experience in working with insurtech business models
  • 1+ year of experience in working with M&A of startup businesses
  • 5+ years of building and leading successful growth strategies for at least one line of business, preferably in the insurtech space
  • 2+ years of product development and pricing experience preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in developing comprehensive business cases to evaluate viability and determine key decisions for potential business endeavors
  • Experience working at or directly with an InsurTech Startup preferred
  • Experience working with venture-backed technology companies preferred
Knowledge & Skills:
  • Expert level knowledge of InsurTech business models
  • Project management skills and ability to drive results
  • High degree of market intelligence and networking within the InsurTech space
  • Demonstrated ability to build business to business partnerships
  • Sophisticated client relationship management capabilities
  • Ability to influence others at every level both internally and externally and effectively present in a compelling way
  • Ability to be creative and position assigned revenue stream to succeed in highly competitive and rapidly changing environment
  • Must be a collaborative team player
  • Bring existing P&C deep expertise across a variety of roles and functions - capable to build out additional expertise in the InsurTech space
Fluency with strategic partnering (e.g., business development, corporate development) and negotiations in an InsurTech context including knowledge of partnering types and structures
