Job Summary:

To perform the duties to keep buildings and grounds in condition for safe and efficient use by the school district and outside groups. Ensure that all district and non-district sporting events are prepared for.
This position is considered an essential employee.

Essential Duties:

1. Responsible for the work routine and duties of grounds personnel.

2. Maintain payroll records.

3. Maintain vacation/sick requests of custodial staff

4. Write and send work orders to the facilities office for repairs

5. Maintain inventory of custodial and maintenance supplies, fuel oil and equipment for the facility including receiving.

6. Coordinate maintenance requests with Support Services.

7. Accept the full responsibility of the cleaning, reporting of problems and grooming of facilities and grounds.

8. Sweeps, mops, scrubs, polishes and waxes floors, dust and cleans offices, classrooms, etc.

9. Perform ongoing preventive maintenance and minor repairs to custodial equipment and on plumbing, HVAC, electrical, building structure and hardware.

10. Perform normal operator adjustments and services to facility operational equipment such as, but not limited to, unit ventilators and fans and maintains records on operational and maintenance activities.

11. Assist visiting public using the facilities with directions within the building and in obtaining and setting up needed equipment and/or material. Schedule facility usage.

12. Perform or assist with mowing grass, snow removal, and maintaining grounds and equipment.

13. Maintain building and ground security by locking or instructing others to lock the appropriate areas of the facility each day.

14. Maintain work related records and prepare various reports in a timely manner to appropriate offices.

15. Schedule, hold and report monthly fire drills and building and playground inspections.

16. Inspect on a monthly basis all roofs, sidewalks, driveways, etc. to verify that all standards of cleanliness, health and safety are being maintained.

17. Instruct staff, including substitutes, in the proper use and care of equipment and supplies.

18. Assist in the interview, screening and recommending appointment of all custodians for her/his building.

19. Establish work performance standards and assist Lead Custodians to plan work schedules for custodians and ground crew members.

20. Schedule equipment/system inspections.

21. Maintain accurate accounting procedures and records for proper control and management of supplies, fuel, equipment, etc.

22. Coordinate with the Food Service Department in planning for the proper care and maintenance of equipment and supplies and the proper cleaning of food service areas. Perform kitchen inspections.

23. Responsible for the IPM Program for building.

24. Monitor daily operation of building systems includes occupied/unoccupied control.

25. Assume any other responsibilities as assigned by the Facilities Director, Supervisor, and Principal

26. Ability to use computers to utilize the building management system and the employee time records software

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Demonstrate experience and competence in custodial services, in preventive maintenance and building operation
  • Supervisory experience
  • Proficient in blueprint reading and understanding

Computer skills.

  • Ability and knowledge to operate and perform maintenance on building grounds equipment.
  • Valid PA driver's license.
  • Completion of School Health Physical and TB test
  • Completion of required background clearances.
  • Act 34 - Criminal History Clearance
  • Act 151 - Child Abuse History Clearance
  • Act 114 - Federal Criminal Background Check
