Description


The Texas General Land Office primarily serves the schoolchildren, veterans, and the environment of Texas. The agency does so by preserving our history, maximizing state revenue through innovative administration, and through the prudent stewardship of state lands and natural resources. This position is with our Office of Communications area of the agency.

Performs complex (journey-level) marketing work. Work involves compiling and disseminating marketing information and data. May train others. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Job Elements:

  • Conducts cold calls and establishes contact with new and/or existing Veterans contacts each week; Builds and executes plan to engage veteran service organizations, veterans and land developers to meet VLB goals; Maintains close professional relationships and liaisons with local Veterans service organizations in targeted areas; Makes presentations regarding the services of VLB programs, respond to agency inquiries concerning services, and attend workshops and conferences as appropriate.
  • Executes strategies to expand outreach, including outreach to rural and underserved areas, key gatekeepers, and veterans organizations.
  • Respond to Veterans requests for assistance by assessing service needs and providing direct intervention, information, and referral services as appropriate; Follow-up with Veterans in order to assess outcomes and provide additional services as required.
  • Submits weekly outreach reports brief summaries to the marketing director, detailing actions undertaken, and responses received related to job duties since submission of prior report; Summaries should closely correspond to Travel authorizations and Vouchers submitted during that time frame.
  • Recruit Veterans for VLB services, plan and coordinate workshops, community meetings, surveys, and other activities by developing and distributing outreach materials, directly contacting targeted Veterans, networking with appropriate community organizations, and distributing VLB brochures and information.
  • Promotes VLB Benefits at VLB Benefits fairs and related events; Collects, tracks and reports information; Collaborates with the Veterans call service center to perform follow up.
  • Maintains files and records of individuals served, services provided, outreach activities conducted, surveys completed, and other general reporting as assigned within CRM database.
  • Captures 50 new Veteran contacts monthly (at minimum) by use of salesforce and digital databases. Attends one event (at minimum) in each assigned county. The position is responsible for representing: El Paso, Hudspeth, Culberson, Reeves, Jeff Davis, Presidio, Brewster, Terrell, Val Verde, Crockett, Pecos, Reagan, Upton, Crane, Ward, Loving, Winkler, Ector, Midland, Glasscock, Andrews, Martin, Howard, Mitchell, Gaines, Dawson, Borden, Scurry, and Mitchell counties.
Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business administration, marketing, communications, or a related field.

Three (3) years’ experience in marketing work.

Experience and education may be substituted for one another.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of current marketing and merchandising practices, governing laws, and market reporting procedures.
  • Skill in conducting presentations to individuals and groups, and in the use of a computer and applicable software.
  • Ability to develop marketing strategies, and to communicate effectively.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the employee to primarily perform sedentary office work; however, mobility (moving around the work-site) is routinely required to carry out some of the duties. normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies; marginal or corrected visual and auditory requirements; constant use of personal computers, copiers, printers, and telephones; the ability to move about the office to access file cabinets and office machinery; requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; frequent sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position; ability to move and transport records, documents, boxes and all related information and materials, weighing up to 20 pounds; the ability to work under deadlines, as a team member, and in direct contact with others; and the ability to remain stationary for long periods of time when commuting to and from assigned destination and when traveling on state business including field work and training assignments.
