Make, repair, or replace upholstery for university furniture and vehicles.
  • Reports and take direction from Assistant Director of Facilities or Associate Director of Facilities.
  • Fits, Installs and secures material on frames, using hand tools, power tools, glue, cement, or staples: mounts materials or workpieces onto production equipment.
  • Examines furniture Drawers, chairs, frames, upholstery, springs and secures them in place.
  • Measures and cuts new covering material, using pattern and measuring and cutting instruments, following sketches and design specifications.
  • Checks and repairs Formica.
  • Adjusts or replaces webbing, padding, and springs and secures them in place.
  • Sews rips or tears in material, or creates tufting, using needle and thread.
  • Draws cutting lines on material following patterns, templates, sketches, od blue prints, using chalk, pencil, paint or other.
Performs repairs in wood finishes using sand paper, filler, and stain to match color of surface.
  • Repairs frames, drawers, laminates as needed.
  • Repairs various window treatments such as venetian blinds and roll shades
  • Attach fasteners, grommets, buttons, buckles, ornamental trim, and other accessories to covers or frames, using hand tools.
  • Recommends upholstery fabrics, colors, and styles as well as provides cost estimates for products, services and materials.
  • Must be able to lift minimum of 50lbs.
  • Assists and serves as back up to all other trades.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.
  • Supervises the training of staff on how to repair furniture in the upholstery department.
  • Maintains and repairs all equipment and hand tools needed to perform upholstery duties.
  • Orders and purchases all material and supplies for Upholstery department.
Location MU - Marshall University Salary Range $34,200 $44,400- Salary may be increased based off education, experience, and internal equity. Salary Grade 5

Required Qualifications

Education
High school diploma or GED

Experience
6 months upholstery work plus furniture repair and restoration. Ability to assist
and serves as back up to all other trades. Performs other job duties as assigned.
