Full-Time Gardener needed to support garden team on private estate in The Plains, VA. 40 hours a week.

Responsibilities

• At the direction of the estate manager and with minimal supervision, the Full-Time Gardener performs all parts of horticulture of ornamental and vegetable gardens, garden maintenance to provide and sustain a beautiful, cultivated landscape, and to expertly maintain the many garden areas and feature plantings of the estate.
• Essential Duties:(include but are not limited to)
• Perform all duties peculiar to, and normally required in the trade of gardener/horticulturist following recognized procedures and techniques for such work.
• Maintain grounds and garden by performing timely planting, pruning, weeding, composting, mulching and other horticultural duties.
• Identify and correct problems of plants, ornamental grasses, trees, shrubs, e.g., diseases, injuries, pest infestations.
• Assist in furniture and event set-ups, decorations for special functions, etc.
• Supervise/garden staff, and contractors as needed.
• Operate tools associated with gardening and gardening equipment.
• Inspect the equipment to be used each day to ensure that it is safe and in proper working order.
• Climb ladders and stairs.

Qualifications

• Degree in horticulture
• Formal training in ornamental horticulture or related science or a combination of education, training, and related experience in horticulture and landscape fields to provide the required expertise to perform the duties of this position.
• Three to five years of gardening/horticulture experience
• Competency in plant identification and propagation.
• Self-motivated independent worker who can also work well on a team.
• Organic gardening and native plant knowledge a plus
• Valid Driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Must be able to sit, stand, kneel for greater than 4 hours at a time.
• Must be able to bend and reach.
• Must be comfortable working in all weather conditions and able to lift 50 lbs.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $26.00 per hour
