DESCRIPTION OF WORK

A Forest Program Specialist provides assistance and information to the State Forester’s office, Divisions, and Bureau field offices by: assisting in the development and implementation of forest management and strategic plans; coordinating the bureau’s acquisitions program; coordinating the bureau’s wild and natural areas program; collating and interpreting forest inventories, statistics, and public/stakeholder input; coordinating forest planning activities with other agencies and within the Bureau; reviewing and commenting on proposed legislation/regulations/policies/research affecting forest management and State Forest lands; coordinating state forest environmental reviews for projects affecting State Forest lands; and conducting support activities for the development and maintenance of other projects regarding the management of State Forest lands.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:


  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
  • Alternate work schedule is available.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 5 days per pay period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg or Spring Mills, Pennsylvania.
  • This position will either be located at the Rachel Carson State Office Building at 400 Market Street, Harrisburg, PA 17101 or will be located at the Mira Lloyd Dock Resource Conservation Center at 137 Penn Nursery Road, Spring Mills, PA 16875.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as a Forester; or
  • Two years of experience as a Forest Nursery Assistant Manager; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which affords the applicant the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.
Necessary Special Requirements:
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license, of the proper class for the vehicles operated, as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
