Primary duties include extensive floor and carpet cleaning, to include but not limited to: Carpet cleaning, upholstery cleaning, floor scrubbing with neutral cleaning chemicals and floor stripping using an emulsifier.
  • Window washing is also a responsibility of this position.
  • Position is responsible for inventory tracking of required cleaning materials, supplies and equipment in order to perform duties.
  • These inventory / equipment closets will be maintained in a neat and orderly manner. All equipment will be cleaned and maintained after daily use.
  • Responsible for filling in for Housekeepers, as needed, to help maintain proper APPA cleanliness ratings.
  • Develop and maintain a productive and supportive working relationship with fellow employees, supervisor and customers.
  • Recognize potential and current problems in services to a number of different customers. Address and resolve problems daily in a respectful and courteous manner.
  • Adhere to administrative policies and procedures in accordance with employee Resource Manual and other state and departmental policies such as reporting to work, use of leave, employee relations.
  • Performs daily servicing of all equipment used to insure safety and proper performance.
  • Listens to instructions and asks necessary questions to understand how to complete tasks. Will meet with Environmental Services Supervision or Management on a daily basis to ensure proper schedule is followed.
  • Listens to co-workers questions and feedback to those questions in order to continue with tasks.
  • Asks supervision to explain any directions that remain unclear in order to complete tasks. Provide accurate and concise warehouse requisition forms in order to maintain adequate inventory of all necessities. Give forms to appropriate personnel for processing in a timely manner.
  • If working in teams be sure to communicate clearly with team members to complete work.
  • Possess valid driver’s license and drive ASU vehicle, as needed.
  • Leads by example in the work area by experience and training to overcome problems in the work area.
  • Ability to communicate and work together with building occupants to address and solve problems and schedule regular and special floor / cleaning projects.
  • Ability to communicate standard operating procedures to new housekeepers as part of the on-boarding process.
  • If employee is assigned to work in a designated security sensitive area, employee is required to undergo an extensive background check under the administration of the ASU Police Department and complete a Security Awareness Training with updates as required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
  • Knowledge of floor and upholstery cleaning and housekeeping procedures.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to perform medium to heavy workload.
  • Special certifications may be required.
  • Ability to work with all electrical, battery & propane powered equipment, and maintenance on fire extinguishers within Environmental Services.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills for customer communication.
  • Ability to operate ASU vehicles/equipment with a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to assist as trainer for new housekeepers using Environmental Services standard operating procedures and other documents supplied.

Preferred Qualifications
Prefer floor maintenance and housekeeping experience in large scale facilities.

Physical ability to lift moderately heavy materials, equipment and supplies on a daily basis.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Valid Driver’s License in order to drive ASU vehicles, as needed.

Work Schedule/Hours
DAY SHIFT WORK HOURS :
8-hour workday schedule with primary hours varying within the following time frame: 4:00 am – 3:00 pm; Monday through Friday.

Weekend work and hours other than normal schedule may be required to accomplish assigned duties. Position is subject to call in, call back or stay over on off schedule hours and weekends should emergencies occur. This position will require weekend work for sporting events and other campus events. This position is also expected to work, as needed, in the event of staffing shortages, sporting events and/or other events on campus that require Building Environmental Service needs. Supervisor assignment may be adjusted based on business/operational need.

This position is listed as FIRST CALL to report for any/all Environmental Services emergency situations, as needed.

Designated as MANDATORY, this position is expected to be available for work during University emergencies, closings and adverse weather conditions.

Physical Demands of Position
Physical efforts include lifting and moving all types of tables, chairs, chemicals and supplies, furniture, office and classroom equipment, ladders, trash and debris including snow and ice, cleaning equipment and floor equipment as required. Work can involve climbing ladders. At times, must be able to lift 50-100 pounds. Will need to be able to maneuver and set up heavy athletic equipment (ie: basketball goals, floor covers, volley ball / badminton equipment). Duties to be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

Required Functional Competencies to Successfully Perform Job Duties.
Knowledge-Technical: Uses hot water carpet extractors to clean carpet in all academic buildings on a daily/ weekly basis. Refinishes all tile and terrazzo floors by minor cleaning and spray buffing/waxing or stripping/waxing on a daily / weekly basis. Fills in for absent employees on a daily/ weekly basis. Helps services equipment to keep it functioning properly and efficiently.

Customer Service: Anticipates customer needs, and addresses and resolves promptly and respectfully. Represents the work area when needed to customers on matters of concern.

Safety and Health Compliance: Performs routine servicing of tools and equipment safely to ensure safe operation.

Pay will be commensurate with applicant competencies, budget, equity and market considerations.
