Turner Industries Group is looking for experienced industrial Fire Watches/Helpers for full time maintenance work site in Decatur, AL.

  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background check and drug screen
  • 40-Hours Weekly
  • Overtime if needed

NO per diem or relocation available for this position; the successful candidate will be a current resident in/near the Decatur, AL area.

General Job Description:
In case of a gas spill, fire or other emergency, contacts employees on the job, shuts down all equipment (welding machines, etc. and directs the employees to the correct evacuation route).

Functional Requirements:
Stays awake and alert at all times; knows what is going on in the area and on the job; stays in constant contact with the people doing the work; knows where the nearest fire extinguisher is located and how to use it; knows where the emergency/safety equipment is located and how to use it; knows where the welding machines in use are located on the job and how to turn them off if necessary; knows where the oxygen and acetylene bottles are located and how to turn them off if necessary; keeps the area clean at all times; never leaves a job unattended -is properly relieved before leaving the job; knows who and how to contact in case of an emergency on a job.

Qualification Standards:
  • Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation
  • Hazard Communication orientation/test
  • Turner Industries Group, LLC. indoctrination
  • OSHA approved corrective eye wear (Z87)
  • Job site orientation
  • Job site safety requirements as required by the client (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.)
  • Safety equipment as required by the client(hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.)
  • Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of such individual or others in the work place

Tools/Equipment:
Employee may be required to provide the following: floats, trowels, screeds, straightedge, chisel, hammer, rain suit.

Physical Involvement:
Employee may be required to do the following: climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level; maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds structures, etc.; reaching in all directions, handling and manipulating objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; lifting 30 -50 lbs. from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead; carrying objects, equipment, etc.; standing; sitting; walking; pushing; pulling; bending; kneeling; crouching/squatting; crawling; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction.

Mental Involvement:
Employee may be required to do the following: following set procedures and standards; performing a variety of duties which may often change; following oral and/or written directions; reading; writing; ability to recognize and report safety hazards.

Work Environment Factors:
  • Location: industrial construction sites
  • Mobility Barriers to Access Job Site: uneven ground level; obstructed pathways; work performed at low and/or high elevations; work performed in confined areas
  • Climatic/Environmental Conditions at Job Site: predominately outdoor climate; may be exposed to extreme hot or cold weather, excessive humidity, rain, etc.; various noise levels caused by tools, machinery, equipment, etc.; potential exposure to chemical substances
