This position requires the use of independent judgement and decision-making skills.

This position will work with the Financial Wellness Center Team as we strategically increase the preventative use of our housing financial counseling and as we assess new tools to facilitate positive behavior changes. These endeavors will help us grow our client base and increase our impact.

Horizons Financial Wellness Center
The Financial Wellness Center raises the economic stability of the region by improving the financial capability of individuals in varying levels of financial crisis or need. We work with individuals through one-on-one counseling, group education and our Representative Payee and Money Management Programs.

We are a housing counseling agency approved by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Counselors are required to earn and maintain relevant national standard certification (including HUD Housing Counseling Certification) prior to providing counseling and within six months of hire.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Counsel and interview clients with respect to their overall financial situation as it relates to home ownership, budgeting, debt reduction, credit re-building, and financial education.
2. Create a budget and detailed action plan for all clients
3. Create and ensure the completion of a client’s file per organization and HUD guidelines
4. Adhere to all guidelines related to the confidentiality of client records and information and requirements per the HUD Housing Counseling Handbook and National Industry Standards for Homebuyer Education and Counseling
5. Proactively manage work load, calendar and client appointments to help meet the goals of the organization and serve the client(s) effectively
6. Assist with facilitating education workshops, including scheduling, marketing, and leading the workshops.
7. Conduct community outreach to meet program goals.
8. Obtain and keep HUD certification as a Housing Counselor
9. Travel for periods of time, up to a week, as needed for continuing education training and HUD certification. Many of these trainings may be out of state.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or Associates Degree and 2 years related experience, or 4 years’ experience as a credit counselor, consumer lender, or other related experience. Experience in education, case management, and/or public speaking preferred.

SCHEDULE:
This position may be part-time or full-time. Nights and weekend work may be required as needed for group education and community events. Compensation is commensurate with experience. Additional pay is available upon completion of HUD certification.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Strong oral and written communication skills in individual and group settings.
2. Must become HUD certified within six months of hire.
3. Build collaborative relationships with colleagues and customers representing diverse cultures, races, ages, genders, religions, lifestyles, and viewpoints
4. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
5. Must possess the ability to maintain a positive consistent attitude in working with staff and clients, including holding the belief that people have the capacity to grow and change.
