Position summary

The Executive Director is responsible for the direction, supervision, and coordination of the Red Land Senior Center. The position provides general administration, supervision of all phases of the center organization, and carries out established policies. The Director, along with their team, will focus on providing service to the center attendees as well as display enthusiasm for serving the community at large. Reporting to the Director are part-time staff as well as volunteers. This position reports to the Board of Directors for the Red Land Senior Center.

Qualifications/ experience

· Associate degree in gerontology, sociology, recreation, or a related field. Bachelor’s degree is preferred

· Hold and maintain current certifications in Standard First Aid & CPR and current food service certification (or have the ability to obtain upon hire)

· Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license

· Minimum of one year of experience in non-profit administration or older adult program administration OR three years in general recreation administration

· Exceptional oral and written communication skills; high-level of confidence in communicating with various partners including senior center members, Board of Directors, York County Area Agency on Aging, etc.

· Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and social media platforms (training will be provided on other software/ platforms specific to running the Center)

· Creativity, initiative and superior planning skills with the ability to problem solve quickly and effectively

· Affinity for advocating for older adults

Position responsibilities

Financial administration

· Oversight of fundraising, grant writing, and budgeting

· Identifies and stewards donors

· Devises methods of fundraising in cooperation with the Board of Directors

· Researches and writes grants

· Maintains accurate records and provides regular updates to the Board of Directors

· Protects the financial interests of the Center through budgeting, proper security and record-keeping

Community-based partnerships and activities

· Liaison to partners including the York County Area Agency on Aging, PA Department of Aging, municipalities served, Central PA Food Bank, Community Aid, Wyndamere Heights Church and community at large

· Develops and maintains a public relations plan that involves the interest of business, private, and social communities in the Center’s service area

· Arranges for community-based programs to complement the ongoing Center programs

· Develops and implements outreach programs to enlist new participants from the local service area

· Represents the Center in a positive and professional manner at all programs and meetings

Senior Center programs and activities

· Develops and recommends procedures for the operation of the Senior Center

· Supervises the nutritional, educational, social and recreational programs

· Maintains all data and reports by the established deadlines, including meal counts, daily attendance, membership roster, and any other reports required by agreements

· Oversight of social services for older adults throughout the community and refers individuals to these services. Does so with discretion and confidentiality

· Coordinates and runs a monthly Fresh Express food distribution in cooperation with the Central PA Food Bank

· Coordinates transportation for Center activities and trips

Staff oversight

· Direct responsibility for part-time staff and volunteers

· Recruits, trains and schedules volunteers and staff to assist with functions at the center

Physical requirements

· Much of the work is done with more than normal standing, reaching and walking. Must be able to handle light objects intermittently and occasionally heavy objects (30lbs or under). Office work requires close visual work effort approximately one-third of the day.

Compensation/ hours

· Hours for this position are generally Monday through Friday from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm with occasional weekends or evenings for community events and Board of Director meetings

· Starting salary is $43,000 - $45,000 annually, which is paid bi-weekly

· Two weeks (10 days) of vacation
