St. Norbert College, a nationally-ranked, private, Catholic, liberal arts college is seeking an Event Manager. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of servicing customers in the meeting, conference and catering facets of the department.

Specific responsibilities:
Retrieve service orders from the Event Management Software and generate planning sheets on each event or daily activities. - 10%

Oversee personnel activities of the department, including interviewing prospective hires, scheduling of staff, conducting performance reviews, and creating training materials and programs. Mentor student supervisors for development of managerial skills and attributes. Conduct communication meetings with all support staff. - 30%

Supervise large events which involve catering and technology, meet and greet guests, and troubleshoot last minute needs while communicating throughout the event with the chefs, staff and customers. - 30%

Clean up after events, bill for services rendered and record food amounts left and/or any concerns that came up during the event. Open and close facilities or buildings, prep rooms and prepare areas receiving the guests. Assess and coordinate facility custodial needs to support cleanliness and health and safety issues. - 10%

Prep carts, setup rooms, deliver equipment, and provide operational support for all events across campus. Order any inventory supplies such as linens, liquor, specialty beverages, catering and conferencing supplies. Utilize the software to order food items not produced by the culinary team. - 10%

Maintain technology and catering equipment as well as furniture needed for events. - 10%
Perform additional duties as assigned and attend College required training. Regular attendance is required. Work in a manner that is aware of personal safety and the safety of others and observes safety, health and sanitation codes, regulations, or practices required by the College or governmental authority.
Supervision Exercised Over:
  • 20-30 student/pool workers and a full-time Catering Assistant
  • Students workers from other areas while working events i.e. Bemis Catering and Campus Operation

Required Minimum Qualifications:
Education -
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Experience and Credentials -
  • 3 years of supervisory experience preferably in a catering environment or in the food service industry.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse campus environment or commitment to do so as an employee of St. Norbert College.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to interact professionally with coworkers and customers, particularly in conflict situations.
  • Ability to communicate politely and resolve customer service issues.
  • Ability to multitask, meet specific deadlines, and prioritize tasks and assignments.
  • Skilled in basic math computations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft Office, Google Apps) and ability to learn upgrades and new programs as needed.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and decisions in an expeditious manner.
  • Skilled at setting a good example for others.
  • Skilled at organizing events, programs, projects and seeing them through to completion.
  • Ability to concentrate and focus in a noisy environment.
  • Ability to pass a post offer functional capacity test.

Equipment Used:
Computer, phone, calculator, printer/copier, and other general office equipment. Projectors, laptops, audio systems, video conferencing equipment, dish machine and various catering equipment.


Working Conditions:
Hours vary by events which may include early morning start and more than an 8 hour shift occasionally. This position works an average of 2 nights per week. Weekends required are approximately 18 per year with varying shifts.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform this job.
  • Lifting and carrying occasionally up to 50 pounds with the majority less than 25 lbs. Will need to move within office and building and all over campus to support all events on campus. Approximately one third of the time will be spent working at your desk and sedentary. Pushing and pulling carts filled with catering supplies all over campus, 10 # vacuum, tables, chairs, kegerators, barrels of beer, portable bars, a/v carts, racks of dishes through dish machine, hot boxes, high carts with food, large tarp on heavy cart (500 pounds - team lift), panels of tarp covering gym floor (team lift -3-4 people).
