GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

The Operator will perform a variety of complex tasks, for the street department, such as road building, repairs, drainage system installation and maintenance. They will also assist the parks department with all groundskeeping and maintenance of city properties. Most of tasks are semi-routine in nature.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Comply with established work/ safety policies and procedures. Use of various personal protective equipment is required.

· Check equipment thoroughly before use. Report defects in the equipment to the department supervisor before turning item in for repair.

· Operate equipment safe, accurate, and proficiently. Perform preventive maintenance and make minor adjustments/ repairs to equipment in the field.

· Construct, maintain, or repair streets, approaches, walks, curbs, drainage systems, gutters, parking areas and other public property. This includes areas with asphalt that requires tear-out, relay, overlay, pour & finish concrete, and pothole repair.

· Operate various equipment, such as but not limited to, skid steer, air compressors, jack hammers, asphalt kettle, pour posts on crack sealing projects, walk-behind concrete saw, hand tools (transit level, shovels, rakes, hammer, wrenches, screwdrivers, chainsaw, etc.), mowing equipment (weed eater, zero turn, and tractor mowers), pesticide spray equipment, backhoe-loaders, and mini excavators.

· Work is performed under the general supervision of the Street/Parks Supervisor. The operator is subject to review and direction by the Street/Parks Supervisor, but generally performs assigned work with minimal supervision. Performs other tasks as needed.

· The employee is required to be on-call in a rotation schedule created by the Street/ Parks Supervisor.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

· Ability to read, write, perform basic arithmetic, follow verbal and/or written instructions, carry out assignments with minimal supervision.

· Ability to work in adverse weather and capable of heavy manual labor as needed.

· Ability to maintain effective relationships with city officials, employees, and citizens.

· Possession of a valid Oklahoma State Driver’s License and a driving record acceptable to the city’s insurance carrier.

· Must have or acquire a service technician certification for spraying pesticides within six months from the date of hire.

ADDITIONAL/DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

· Experience in concrete or asphalt construction, maintenance, and repair work.

· Experience in operation and use of dump trucks, tractors, and various types of mowing equipment.

· Experience in municipal street and park equipment operation.

· Experience in landscaping, mowing, tree trimming and other related work.

This job classification has been designated a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.86 - $21.21 per hour
