This position will be in support of the Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center's (NMCPHC) EpiData Center (EDC).
EDC provides data analysis for public health surveillance for Navy and Marine Corps members and dependents. The EDC is the Department of Navy subject matter experts in surveillance related to communicable diseases, occupational and environmental epidemiology, and deployment related health conditions. In addition to surveillance activities, the EDC conducts investigations and studies, supports field experts in outbreak investigations, provides epidemiologic and data consultation, and study design support.

HJF is seeking an Epidemiologist II to support the Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center's (NMCPHC) EpiData Center (EDC).
Responsibilities:
  • Initiates, designs, and implements epidemiological studies supporting EDC.
  • Ability to coordinate and facilitate functions of cross-functional teams of professional and support personnel in conducting routine and non-routine epidemiologic evaluations.
  • Provides consultation regarding study design and necessary statistical analysis to include multivariate methods. This includes advising on designing studies, determining safety and effectiveness of new treatments, analyzing statistics and epidemiological interpretations of the research.
  • Provides ongoing evaluation of projects to include developing advanced concepts, techniques, and standards.
  • Provides epidemiologic support to working groups and serves as liaison with other staff and customers as well as acts independently on issues within his/her field of expertise.
  • Assists with publishing professional and scientific papers and presenting findings at state and national conferences.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must have at least one year of experience using SAS in a professional environment within the last year.
  • Must have experience manipulating and analyzing large data sets for reporting and surveillance.
  • Knowledge and ability to use and teach complex epidemiologic research methods for assessing the risk of disease in humans due to potential risk factors.
  • Advanced knowledge in computer programming with experience with advanced multivariate statistical methods.
  • Knowledge of statistical and mathematical software (including SAS).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Work Environment:
  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.
Education and Experience:
  • Master's Degree in Public Health or related field is required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience. Must have at least one year of SAS experience in a professional environment within the last year.
