Job Overview
are currently hiring Environmental Scientist / Wetland Scientist positions with 0-2 or more years of experience for our Poughkeepsie, NY Office. The position will be in our Environmental Permitting and Compliance Group to work as Ecological Monitors on a transmission project. The work duties will be mainly endangered species monitoring, but may also include Environmental Construction Compliance inspections, and Wetland Delineations. Currently the project is for a two-year term seasonal project, (April-November 2022 and April-November 2023), working up to six days/week for up to 12 hour days. This is an excellent opportunity for entry level environmental scientists to gain valuable experience working on a major construction project while monitoring for endangered species. There may be the potential for some staff who show demonstrate strong skills, dedication, and a willingness to work throughout New York or the northeast, to be hired as permanent employees at LaBella.

A successful candidate will be self- motivated with the willingness to learn, train, and continue building their knowledge through training, experience, and classes in the environmental science and/or engineering industry.

The positions will be $25 per hour and a vehicle will likely be provided for fieldwork.

Responsibilities

  • Perform species monitoring for Transmission line construction.
  • Assist in conducting wetland delineation field work including GPS point acquisition and wetland data collection.
  • Complete SWPPP inspections and perform environmental monitoring during active construction projects. NYSDEC Erosion and Sediment Control (EnS) 4 hour course a plus.
  • Communicate findings to team leaders or managers and evaluate environmental risk.
  • Independently manage assignments and meet project deliverable schedules.
  • Work Six (6) days a week, 12-hour days to meet contractor schedule
Qualifications

  • 0-2 years of experience preferred; potential for entry level position
  • BS in Wildlife, Environmental Science, Natural Resources or related field of study.
  • Experience creating maps and interpreting data in GIS.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environmental team environment.
  • Good verbal, technical written, communication, and time management skills are essential.
  • NYSDEC Erosion and Sediment Control (EnS) and 4 hour course a plus.
Salary Range: $25/hr
