Founded in 2017 by eminent scientists in the gene editing and biotechnology fields, Pairwise holds licenses from Harvard and Massachusetts General Hospital to base editing and high-fidelity enzymes. We also are tuned in to consumer food trends, and we believe that consumers deserve more variety and innovation in their fresh food choices. Our team is primed to deliver that innovation through one of the best gene-editing platforms in food and agriculture. Pairwise has an exclusive 5-year research collaboration with Bayer to develop products in corn, soybean, wheat, canola, and cotton. Plus, Pairwise is developing new types of leafy greens, berries, and stone fruit, with the first product expected in early 2023. Pairwise is based in the start-up friendly Research Triangle Park area of North Carolina.


About This Role:

At Pairwise, we drive innovation through data, software, and information integration to establish our digital ecosystem. In doing so, we don’t want to reinvent the wheel, so we utilize off-the-shelf software with custom-built solutions to drive our business needs. Do you love building in the technology space, or solving complex business problems in a fast-paced, collaborative, and iterative environment? Then we’re looking for you! The ideal candidate will have experience within many disciplines including software development, database design, and user experience. You’ll use that experience to work with both non-technical and technical team members across Pairwise to deliver solutions that accelerate our business.


Essential Functions:

  • Lead and take ownership of projects that establish and maintain interfaces between a variety of applications, including Commercial Off-the-Shelf as well as Pairwise custom-developed.
  • Design, code, test, and document integrated systems per standards to achieve a well-engineered result.
  • Evaluate technologies, design structures, and develop tools for systems to meet business needs.
  • Develop and maintain specialist knowledge of database concepts, object and data modeling, and design principles, including a detailed knowledge of database and software architecture.
  • Collaborate across teams, business, engineering, data science, and IT to ensure successful delivery to specification and user adoption.


Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s, or equivalent experience, in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Data Science or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering, including object-oriented programming (Python preferred).
  • Experience in designing, building, deploying, and supporting integrated application systems.
  • Experience in relational and/or noSQL databases.
  • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Supply Chain experience preferred, Netsuite-specific knowledge a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within the team to drive innovation.
