Summary
Supplier Quality Development Engineer Position is responsible for Qualification and continuous development of suppliers to ensure and improve the quality performance, delivery performance (in-time delivery and quantity) and optimization of external value-added costs.
Responsibilities
Primary duties

Planning and implementation of new supplier approvals (Assessments/Audits) with understandability of supplier manufacturability on complex parts/components.

  • Prepare comprehensive audit reports, Identify risks and implement action plans & process optimization to improve supplier performance ensuring supply of quality products
  • Initiation and follow-up of correction measures from audits and reclamations (8D-Reports) to ensure the supplier processes.
  • Technical assessment /plausibility check of manufacturability analyses as well as evaluation of purchased part-FMEA / APQP and influence on the assessment factors
  • Supervision of quality planning (APQP) for new products/processes with mentoring the start-up of production of prototypes up to the initial sampling at the supplier.
  • Qualification of suppliers to make first sample tests. In specific cases acceptance of initial sample tests/first sample releases at supplier on-site.
  • Implementation and supervision of preventive quality assurance actions at suppliers (FMEA, Control plan, PPAP, VN3205/ VN3206).
  • Identify and follow-up optimization potentials in technologies, processes and reduction of scrap to achieve the SOTIF, ppm-rate, Q-costs and savings.
  • Key Technical support for Material Group Managers and Design/Engineering for all purchasing-related QM-topics.

Lead Quality aspects of localizing Voith Turbo Products in North America by performing the following activities: Collaborating with Engineering, Product Management, Quality Assurance to ensure that all product requirements meet or exceed the expectations providing overall responsibility to analyze engineering specifications, design changes and other data to plan supplier component manufacturing activities from conceptual stage through Serial production.

  • Development and qualification of suppliers regarding Automotive/ IRIS-Standard (Mobility) and/or Industry standards ASME, API, Norsok, country-specific regulations and standards.
  • Promotion of operational excellence and Best Practice applications at suppliers.
  • Support for Cost Break-Down projects to optimize the value added chain.
  • Negotiation and conclusion of Performance Agreements (ppm/ SOTIF/stocks/Leadtime) and support of negotiation of Quality Assurance Agreements.
  • Support QA / SQA regarding operative quality problems (escalation/sustainable follow-up on site).
  • Support of operative areas / incoming goods quality assurance with application of suitable QM methods.
  • Implementation of process analyses and documentation of processes at suppliers.
  • Application of Q-Management and its methods (DGQ training, QM auditor) and standards such as ISO/TS 22163, IATF 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, VDA.
  • The tasks will be performed by product groups and the respective technologies.

Supplier release/block in the context of assessment results and process audits regarding process-and quality-relevant criteria prior to placement of order and for series manufacturing.

  • Independent decisions with regard to the field of duties within the defined Voith-guidelines. (e.g. Compliance, Signature guidelines, Working instructions, process descriptions).

Qualifications & Skills*

  • Minimum Bachelor degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent combined education and experience, 5-7 years working experience in Heavy Industry, Automotive, Rail business or equivalent industry
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or equivalent body of knowledge
  • Practical Knowledge of Industry specific quality registration (ISO9001:2015 & IATF16949)
  • Practical Knowledge of APQP, Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), ISO, structured problem solving (8D, DMAIC, Six Sigma, KT, etc.), and auditing
  • Working knowledge of one or more of the following material categories: Fabrication, Machining, Castings & Forgings, Bearings, Gears
  • Technical background or experience with strong mechanical aptitude including Solid understanding and ability to read technical specifications, drawings and production schedules
  • Strong skills in project management, statistics, and problem analysis / resolution
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to thoroughly analyze, interpret data / information to make sound informed decisions
  • This position requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to independently troubleshoot as well as develop alternative solutions to problems.
  • Ability to apply statistical methods to improve business processes
  • Excellent collaboration skills required. Able to effectively interface at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team and a positive communication style.
  • Strong Knowledge of ERP systems (Navision / SAP preferred) and Proficient on Microsoft Office Suite with strong Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, complex formulas).
