Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree in electronics; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. License/Certification Required

Essential Job Functions
  • Perform skilled work in the maintenance, installation, repair and monitoring of electronic access control equipment.
  • Operate standard or specialized testing equipment necessary in troubleshooting of electronic access control equipment.
  • Learn and operate electronic access control system for campus building scheduling with our database.
  • Review/comment access control plans and design for proper installation and operation.
  • Knowledge of NFPA or other life safety codes and standards.
  • Program/configure/register access control boards and equipment.
  • Coordinate with the Facilities Operations Lock Shop for assistance with electronic access system installations and repairs, as necessary.
  • Set up and coordinate access assignments with building managers.
  • Provide mentoring and training to other employees as necessary.
  • Monitor outside vendors/contractors for proper installations, as necessary.
  • Subject to after hours/weekends or holiday callbacks as required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
  • Working knowledge of electronic principles, mathematical principles, and fundamental physics as applied to electronics.
  • Working knowledge of tools and testing equipment necessary to perform low voltage wiring and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to install and repair low voltage cabling, devices and equipment for electronic access systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electronic equipment and devices.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints for access control systems.
  • Ability to learn how to monitor, set up or change scheduling for campus buildings with the electronic access system.
  • Ability to program/configure electronic access control boards and equipment.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Ability to operate university owned vehicles with valid NC driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications
3-5 years of working knowledge of low voltage electrical repairs and installations.

Strong computer skills.

Locksmith CRL or equivalent certification from ALOA or other locksmith certification.

Physical Demands of Position
Employee will be subject to extremes of heat, cold, dust, and dirt on a daily basis. Routinely lifting up to 20 pounds and required on a limited basis be subject to assist with up to 50 pounds with the aid or assistance of a team member. Callback situations may necessitate emergency repairs in extremes of inclement weather.
