Jacobs is seeking an Electrical Field Inspector to join our team in South Florida. In this position, you’ll observe and inspect the field services maintenance contractor responsible for installation and maintenance of the County’s and FDOT’s 27,000 streetlights in Miami Dade County. You’ll provide oversight and inspection of the maintenance contractor’s work maintaining and converting existing streetlights to energy efficient LED lights, generate inspection reports utilizing Jacobs work order management system, and perform quality control inspections of contractor with documentation in project CMMS system.

The following duties are representative of the range of duties performed under this job classification. Individual employees may only perform a subset of the duties listed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform quality assurance spot inspections and evaluation of ROW work to ensure compliance with County and FDOT standards and specifications.
  • Oversee and approve ROW permits within a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for ROW work which includes project status and construction inspection notes; Verify compliance of notes/data on ROW permits or standard operating procedures agreed to with contractor.
  • Assist in scheduling and attending on an as needed basis for pre-construction meetings; Respond to streetlights emergencies or other situations affecting streetlights in public rights-of-way.
  • Assess situations and coordinate appropriate response with the Field Services Manager.
  • Ability to respond to emergency maintenance issues for traffic services on an on-call basis.
  • Monitor contractor to ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures, including the Manual on Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), OSHA, and Jacobs’s Safety Policy; Follow safety procedures, report unsafe activities and conditions, utilize safety equipment, and monitor work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.
  • Maintain a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, codes, regulations;
  • Make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and perform other duties as assigned.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Five (5) years of experience working with public and/or private utilities, preferably electrical utilities with a working knowledge of public-sector right-of-way regulations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with CMMS.
  • Ability to read blueprints, surveys and job specifications.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license with no major infractions

Ideally, You’ll Also Have:

  • Associates degree, or degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology or Construction Management.
  • Eight (8) years of experience working with public and private utilities, with a strong working knowledge of public-sector right-of-way regulations, construction plans, and electrical utilities.
  • Flagger and traffic control certifications.
  • Southeast Florida experience and residency.
  • Florida Department of Transportation experience
