Position Summary:
Our standard and custom high-speed automated packaging equipment enables our customers to excel in highly competitive food and pharmaceutical industries. The Electrical Engineering Manager is an integral role in Syntegon’s success in leading the world’s packaging machinery market.

In this role, the manager is leading and developing a great team of software and electrical engineers, working on process excellence and supporting the business with technical and product guidance for concepts and solutions to meet our customer’s high expectations. This is a fast pace, dynamic and team centric work environment that requires self-motivation and independence paired with empowerment to be impactful for the organization.

Leadership tasks and responsibilities:

  • Provides guidance and direction to the Engineering team, along with providing clear objectives, smart goals to ensure designated achievements are met.
  • Implements a culture of empowerment and accountability.
  • Empathic and team oriented leader. Engaged with the teams; listen and understanding their road blocks, supports their need along with the willingness to work towards the common good.
  • Working on team’s and individual’s development/ training needs for technologies and products.
  • Supports the engineering staff while retaining overall responsibility for the performance and quality of the design work for the team.
  • Responsible for the staffing of the software and controls engineering team.
  • Determines and recommends promotions, compensation adjustments, retention and performance improvements plans.
  • Responsible to define and manage departments budgets
  • Scheduling and prioritizing team’s tasks and resources to meet the needs of sales orders, customer service requests and improvement projects.
  • Monitor and mentor the progress of the engineers in meeting scheduled engineering release completion dates and scheduled ship dates.
  • Analyzing, defining and implementing counter measures for product KPI deviations (Q, C, D and Safety)
  • Be an active member of the Engineering management team.

Strategic tasks and responsibilities:

  • Participates in defining and communicating the companies and departments TOP5 improvement strategies and being accountable for its implementation.
  • Communicates, motivates and encourages the team to follow defined company and engineering strategies.
  • Participates in global business teams and represents the site needs regarding software and electrical engineering topics.
  • Manages relationships with other internal global engineering teams.
  • Participate in the definition of development plans and portfolios.
  • Seeks opportunities for portfolio automation to solve customer problems.

Technical tasks and responsibilities:

  • Provides technical and strategic guidance for the company on solutions and concepts for customer order projects.
  • Understanding and following recognized codes and standards (NFPA, NEC, CE, UL, ETL). Ensures adherence to any and all standards, i.e. UL 508A, ISO 13849, etc. and promoting adherence to these standards for direct reports.
  • Administering the required Syntegon policies for the department such as product liability and safety policies.
  • Frequently participating in Systemic Design Review (SDR) and quality gates (QG) on risky projects (high ETO content) and system projects.
  • Supports the sales teams in the field with technical know-how in order to generate order intake.
  • Maintains engineering release and revision control procedures, designs, standardization and configuration history of shipped machinery.
  • Coordinates activities related to updating and improving software and machine functionality.
  • Reviews and approves software for incorporation into product baselines.

Qualifications


BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology.
  • Must have at least 8+ years of work experience in an Engineering discipline.
  • Must have a minimum of 5+ years of experience supervising or managing a team of engineers.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in engineering or MBA a plus.
  • Excellent leadership, decision making, and communication skills.
  • Strong team orientated, along with strong organizational and time management skills, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of industrial controls systems used in automated packaging or similar capital equipment (e.g. Rockwell Automation, Beckhoff Automation, Software & Hardware).
  • Proven performance
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and resources.
  • Ability to motivate teams in order to achieve required objectives.
  • Ability to collaborate with many other teams.
  • Confident personality with strong customer service.
