North Texas Behavioral Health Authority (NTBHA) is responsible for a collaborative system of care for children, adolescents and adults with severe mental illness and other serious emotional disturbances as well as those experiencing a substance use disorder. We are based in Dallas and serve the six-county region of Dallas, Ellis, Hunt, Kaufman, Navarro, and Rockwall Counties.

We are responsible for developing a collaborative system of care for individuals in crisis in the NTBHA service area. We are focused on trauma-informed, resilience-oriented care in all services provided.

The Educational Resource Clinician will serve as a resource regarding child and adolescent mental health and substance use disorders for school and education service center (ESC) employees. This position’s actions and work must align with NTBHA’s values and goals, policies and procedures, and meet all documentation standards and regulatory requirements.

Summary of Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Increase ESC and school employees’ awareness and understanding of mental health and co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Assist employees in the implementation of initiatives related to mental health or substance use.
  • Ensure employees are aware of best practice-based programs, research-based practices and other public and private mental health and substance use programs.
  • Facilitate Mental Health First Aid trainings.
  • Facilitate trainings regarding the impact of grief and trauma, special considerations in supporting children with intellectual or developmental disabilities who are impacted by grief or trauma and prevention and intervention programs proven effective in helping students cope with pressures to use of alcohol, cigarettes, illicit drugs or prescription drug misuse.
  • Complete a needs assessment related to mental health and substance use and misuse for children, adolescents and families in the targeted ESC area by working closely with Texas Health and Human Services Commission – Children’s Mental Health Unit Program Specialist, the LMHA/LBHAs in the ESC region, the MHFA Outreach Workers at each of the LMHA/LBHAs, the ESC staff, the local school districts and other community stakeholders.
  • Research resource information online and through networking.
  • Liaison and collaborate between systems including: LMHA/LBHAs, ESCs, school districts, community agencies, and state agencies.
  • Design, implement, and coordinate a calendar of events.
  • Complete and submit monthly reporting template to LMHA/LBHA supervisor.
  • Duties and projects may be assigned or changed to meet business needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduated from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree or higher.
  • Current and valid Texas Driver’s license and a clean driving record with reliable transportation
  • Current licensure of a Texas LPC and 2 years school/field experience
  • Ability to pass a fingerprint-based background check and drug screen.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
