Position Summary


The Wade House Historic Site is a 240-acre outdoor living history museum located in Greenbush, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. Guests experience the era of stagecoach travel at the Wade House Hotel and discover what an 1850s town was like at the Dockstader Blacksmith shop and the Herrling Sawmill. Our beautiful Visitor’s Center includes the Wesley J. Jung Carriage Museum with over 40 carriages on display. Horse drawn carriage rides transport guests throughout the site as part of the daily experience and sheep and chickens roam the grounds. Wade House connects people to the past through unparalleled storytelling and historic experiences to create lasting memories. Staff work in historic indoor and outdoor spaces with fellow team members across the picturesque site to create an exceptional experience for our guests.

The Learning Facilitator at Wade House Historic Site is responsible for the implementation of dynamic educational experiences for a diverse range of audiences including K-12 students, families, and adults. The Learning Facilitator has a strong focus on designing for accessibility, inclusion, relevancy, and measurable learning outcomes. Utilizing creative engagement methods, the Learning Facilitator assists in the development and delivery of educational and camp programs that are based in historical literacy to create connections between the past and present and foster civic participation.

The Learning Facilitator works closely with other staff members to continually refine and strengthen program offerings.

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Educational Program Facilitation and Design

  • Facilitate learning experiences for PK-12, family, and adult audiences through a variety of programs including field trips, classroom programs, and virtual experiences.
  • Ensure all programs are accessible and welcoming for diverse learners.
  • Participate in the development of learning resources and planning for school tours, family programs, and summer camps.

Plan and Implement Summer Camps

  • Participate on the team to design and implement summer camp lesson plans, that integrate science, arts, and innovation into historical inquiry-based activities.
  • Facilitate creative and innovative camp activities on the Wade House grounds utilizing a range of primary resources including buildings, objects, documents, and oral histories.
  • Create a relevant, impactful, and educational experience for summer camp participants.

Program Coordination

  • Provide administrative support for booking and checking in groups and campers, processing payments, tracking daily attendance, and coordinating movement of groups through the site.
  • Organize and set up all materials required for assigned programs.
  • Actively communicate information affecting learning programs with staff and audiences, including confirmation letters, invoices, and program information.

Salary Information


Pay is $17.00 per hour. This classification is in schedule and class 02-11.

Please note this is a Limited Term Employment position so it does not include paid time off or benefits upon hire.


Job Details


Work Schedule: 8-40 hours per week April- October; 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m, weekend hours required, evenings and additional availability as needed for special events. 8-20 hours per week November -March

A criminal background check will be conducted by WHS prior to an offer of employment to determine if the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job.

This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and limited to 1,039 hours. This position will be part time and average 20 hours per week.

Wisconsin residency is required for Limited Term Employment positions.

Limited Term Employment (LTE) positions are not civil service classified positions, do not give any rights to permanent civil service classified positions and do not lead to permanent status.

WHS does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.

All state employees are required to report their COVID vaccination status, whether vaccinated or not, and must provide supporting documentation if vaccinated. Newly hired employees will be required to submit this information within their first two weeks of employment

  • Knowledge, skill, and ability to think quickly and exhibit flexibility while ensuring exceptional guest experience.
  • Skills and ability to communicate effectively in person and by other means with staff, guests, and volunteers of diverse backgrounds and interests.
  • Ability to carry out assigned duties with a minimum of supervision.
  • Ability to complete assigned duties in historic structures lacking climate control and with direct exposure to the outdoors in farm and wooded environments, including allergens and insects, may need to work outside in all weather conditions on occasion.
  • Ability to work in period clothing in all weather conditions on occasion.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and be mobile for long periods of time.
  • Knowledge, skills and ability to use email, internet based time sheet submission, MS office applications.
