About the Washington State Employee Assistance Program
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) supports public employees and/or family members to help identify and resolve personal concerns that may affect job performance. EAP is the behavioral and mental health expert in the workplace; therefore, assistance to both employees and employers serves to maximize state government’s ability to serve the people of Washington, per the Enterprise Services mission.

Who we are looking for
The EAP Intake Counselor provides clinical intake, referral and counseling support and assistance to both employers (supervisors, management, executives, and HR) and to employees and their family members in identifying and resolving concerns in order to promote a productive and healthy workforce.

The ideal candidate for this position has experience with and confidence working in a diverse and multi-cultural work environment and has the ability to effectively balance employee interests and departmental operational needs and values. Duties


Some of what you will enjoy doing:


  • Clinical Intake:
    Complete intake assessments using evidence-based screening tools and mental health/behavioral interviewing techniques via various communications platforms (video conference, telephone, live chat, etc.) with covered employees and their adult household members, including appropriate follow-up communications to complete a comprehensive clinical assessment, including mitigation of risk.
  • Clinical Assessments: Conduct needs assessment and problem identification using evidence-based tools and short-term problem-solving, and provide resources and referrals for employees and their covered household members.
  • Crisis Intervention: Provide in-the-moment clinical support to covered employees and their covered household members and to supervisors/managers/executives/HR in response to urgent/emergent situations and events.
  • Supervisor/Manager/HR Requests: Provide triage, coordination and/or scheduling of management consults, formal referrals requests and critical incident response requests.
  • Internal EAP Counselor Referrals: For referrals to internal EAP counselors, review counselor availability and schedule appointments on counselors’ calendars.
  • Network Provider Referrals: Determine need/appropriateness for referral to network providers, initiate authorizations, track authorizations and referrals and follow up as necessary.

Qualifications


Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in social services, psychology, counseling, social work, or related field from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA); AND
  • Minimum of one (1) year of post-graduate experience and training in behavioral health and counseling – OR – semester-long field practicum/internship providing direct services in an employee assistance program setting; AND
  • Licensed at the associate level or higher in one of the following fields:
    • Psychology
    • Clinical Social Work
    • Marriage and Family Therapy
    • Professional Counseling or Mental Health Counseling

**NOTE: Experience noted above should include the following areas:
  • Intake: Provide first-encounter experience and complete intake assessments using evidence-based screening tools and mental health/behavioral interviewing techniques via various communications platforms (video conference, telephone, live chat, etc.)
  • Counseling: Conduct clinical assessment and develop individualized assistance plans based on findings of assessment to address identified problems, effectively uses a variety of tools and methods to encourage adults to change behavior and/or overcome physical/emotional barriers, provide referrals to employees and their families for diagnosis, treatment, and/or community resources, develop follow-up plans.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience providing EAP services as part of an internal or hybrid EAP model in a public sector, government setting
  • Proficiency with EAP Expert electronic records system
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Microsoft Bookings
  • Training or experience in crisis counseling and suicide prevention
