Job Description

The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine is seeking a full-time specialist to support its efforts to integrate inclusion, equity, diversity, and quality initiatives. The diversity, equity, and inclusion specialist will serve in a support role for the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. This position will have a primary report to the Assistant Dean for Student Vitality with secondary reporting to the Chief Diversity Officer. The individual in this position will be responsible for tasks such as departmental event calendaring, management of departmental databases, ordering supplies and recruitment items, scheduling travel for recruitment events, attending and assisting with pathway program and recruitment events, monitoring project plans, schedules, organizing and participating in stakeholder meetings, and ensuring that project(s) deadlines are met in a timely manner. This position also includes serving as secretary for the Council for Diversity and Inclusion and proctoring medical student examinations.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • Have excellent communication, administrative, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion and ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates degree or equivalent work experience
  • Experience using HokieMart and ChromeRiver
