Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma (or equivalent).
  • Must obtain employer paid Emergency Medical Dispatch certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Strong computer, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to read, write, spell, and speak clearly utilizing the English language.
  • Possess the ability to work in a high stress environment, which requires comprehension, rapid and accurate communications, receiving information/instructions to and from field personnel and persons calling for assistance.
  • Knowledge of the Salt Lake Valley, to include streets, highways, canyons, access roads and hospital locations desired.
  • Must be able to work any shift as scheduling changes become necessary.


Primary Functions:

Responsible for monitoring, updating, and controlling the location and deployment of ambulances. Receive incoming calls promptly and accurately to ascertain levels of response, allocating resources to match demand. Enter and update data into the computer aided dispatch system (CAD), answer incoming and make outgoing calls. Monitor and operate company wide radio system and related channels.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Maintain and provide deployment according to the coverage plans provided by the Director of Communications.

2. Enter accurate information into computer aided dispatch system.

3. Assign calls to appropriate ambulances (emergency, non-emergency, scheduled and calls).

4. Answer incoming telephone lines, including ring down lines, direct dial lines, in house lines.

5. Perform outgoing telephone calls to facilities, management, employees, etc.

6. Knowledge of the telephone system for the purpose of answering calls in priority and a professional manner.

7. Ability to maintain self control in performance of duties including events of high call demand, such as a disaster, major incident, etc.

8. Make internal recommendations to improve overall performance in the dispatch center.

9. Maintain current Emergency Medical Dispatch and CPR certifications adherent to the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch certification requirements.

10. Attend ongoing education and training in-service instruction provided by the company.


This job is generally sedentary and requires many hours working in office setting utilizing phones, radios, and computers for many hours at a time.
